I truly feel sorry for people who can't enjoy Andrew W.K.,
By Will (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
Like the title says, by hating on Andrew W.K., you're only truly hurting yourself. The man's a ball of healing white light, and if he passes on before me, I expect to have a beer with him, Mr. Rogers, and Bob Ross in the afterlife when I go. I Get Wet is the greatest party record since... you know, I'm not even sure. It's been so long since a record partied that damn hard. Probably something by Queen, honestly. And The Wolf is every bit as good a record, if not better. Unless you're just the most jaded hipster in existence, you will feel genuine uplift during tracks like "I Love Music." I've seen the man live, and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever attended. I'm a pretty quiet, reserved guy, but I never once stopped jumping up and down for that entire two hours. And Andrew rocked a thousand times harder than I did that night, for certain. If you're reading this Andrew, many thanks for the phenomenal albums, and thanks again for that message you left on my answering machine.

I GET WET IS PLAIN HARD PARTYING ; THE WOLF IS INSPIRATIONAL,
By Bingo (Brooklyn, NY, USA) - See all my reviews

When I received "THE WOLF" which I had pre ordered, I had that awesome feeling one has when they just bought a well anticipated CD. You are excited, however, weary if it will live upto the hype. AWK fans, don't worry. This won't disappoint. Any hard core Andrew fans who listen to "I Get Wet" religiously will realize right off the bat that "The Wolf" is a whole new ballgame. However, this does not mean that you don't want to be in the ballpark. It starts off in familiar territory, as promised, with "Victory Strikes Again" and "Long Live The Party", two anthems that should be played during any house party. Then we start to hear a different side of Mr. WK. And, believe me, it isn't a bad side. Tear It Up may sound a bit similar to tracks on "...Wet" however, he reveals more of his personal side than in previous songs. "I did what I wanted at school/ I hung out on my own I went it alone and I probably really looked like a fool." Songs such as "Really In Love" and "I Love Music" are really going to get stuck in your head, (Fair Warning). Overall, this is a well made album to say the least. When artists release new albums, they promise so much change, maturity, growth, etc. but most of the time, the albums don't match up to the words. This is definetely a different album. What makes WK so fun and enjoyable is, besides his music, he is a guy that is so incredibly easy to like and root for. This is a guy who made mistakes, admitted them and changed his ways to the point where he uses his intensity in a positive way. In a music industry filled with snooty, self centered artists, WK is really a fresh breath of air. "Just because this life isn't easy, doesn't make it bad." I Get Wet was great and The Wolf just continues WK's path of excellence, while changing the sound a bit. A difficult task, but he pulls it off.

Friday night or Saturday Morning?,

Its a sad day when I feel like I can actually party harder than AWK. Listening to I Get Wet you had to wonder if Andrew W.K. would be the savior of rock and roll. How he was able to pack so much energy into a set of 3 minute fist pumping rock anthems was amazing. It was either really good or really bad depending on how much alcohol you had consumed. Either way you had to admit that it was brilliant. I`d easily rate it as one of the top rock records of the year as well. However with The Wolf its almost as if AWK has devolved into a charicature of himself. (C`mon Andrew... was Make Sex reeeeaaallly necessary?) The songs are still about the party, but the intensity is lacking and the fist pumping has been traded in for quieter ballads. There are still some great guitars on the record but a lot of the time they are masked behind the over-use of keyboards and synthesizers. The final product is good but nowhere near the cailber of I Get Wet. Don`t let this review deter you buying the record and making up your own mind. Its still a solid rock n` roll record, and songs like `Tear It Up` and `Never Let Down` are diamonds in the mix. Somewhere around the middle of the album you might just find that you`ve outgrown some of his schtick. Maybe AWK has too?

VICTORY STRIKES AGAIN!!!,

This Album makes me feel GOOD!! Andrew WK Makes me feel good!!! I can easily say hes on of the greatest rising artists of this generation!! Its about time someone with a positive out look got to get their message out!! I loved "I Get Wet" and I LOVE "THE WOLF" even more!!! and i got to tell Andrew himself the day it came out! This album is musicly more technical. I'm not saying like Dream Thearter techincal, but Andrew is a outstanding musician! and he played the whole album himself! There is more balls to the wall up beat messages. I think he said it himself, that I get wet was the "Invatation" to the party and that this is the after thought, the message he really wanted to get out. Heres my track by track review:1)Victory Strikes Again- A mostly instermental, a great guitar solo and it really pumps you up for the rest of the album 2)Long Live The Party- A catchy balls to the wall track! With a very catchy piano interlude 3)Tear It Up- If you ask me, this is A punk song, done AWK style! 4)Free Jumps- A feel good catchy tune 5)Never Let Down- a powerful ballad. the lead single off the album 6)Your Rules- A declration to all the haters! AWK will remain strong!! 7)The Song- A fantastic catchy song 8)Make Sex- A old song thats sort of a filler but fun non the less 9)Totaly Stupid- Perhpas my favorite song on the album! This is the song that picks me up when ever i feel down 10)Really In Love- Really from the heart. 11)End Of Our Lives- A declration reminding us that life is too short to waste away. A fantastic song! 12)I Love Music- THE NAME SAYS IT ALL!!! BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

Understand the band and you will understand the music!,

To all who have dissed this album with their little 10 word reviews ("...cheesy keyboard effects", "sounds like some Poison or wanna-be 80's hard rock band...." blah blah blah): go pick up the newest Jennifer Timberlake or Justin Lopez CD or who ever the flava-of-the-month unable to wright my own lyrics only thing i got going is I know how to dance dont even know how to play a musical instrument CD. Leave Andrew W.K. to the REAL fans of pure rock, which is what this album represents. The Wolf may not hit as hard as I Get Wet... but its just as powerful! I mean, you got all these whiners sayin how this album is not as hard as the the first one, how its to different or to slow. COMON PEOPLE!! Heaven forbid they try something a little different or new. In my opinion this album is one of the greatest rock albums ive heard (along with I Get Wet). You can really hear the power and emotion and dedication in the lyrics. I hope Andrew W.K. sticks around for years to come and by the way their first two albums sound... they will.

Slower Pace Allows for More Complexity, and I Like it.,
By Justin Skiftenes (Chicago, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
Andrew WK is a more complicated artist than most people give him credit for. The first thing that I feel that most people glance over is the complexity of the music in each tune. Most songs on the album have 7 or 8 tracks. You have to listen to the album 10-15 times just to hear them all. When you keep in mind that he is playing at 3 of them on each track and produced the album himself, it is really quite something of a feat. The second thing that people will tend to rip on him about is his lyrical content. His first album is largely devoid of any real content, however, with this album he really makes some strides forward. There is an ongoing theme over positivity throughout the album and various tracks deal with different aspects of positive things in his life (fun through partying, not letting life beat you down, love, etc.). He's no Lennon or McCartney, but it's a step forward. If you read anything that Andrew WK has ever written or seen him in an interview you can see that he is just beeming with positive energy and all he wants is to make music for his fans to enjoy. Such a person is rare in today's music, and one with talent is even rarer. Andrew WK is such a person, and this album is well worth it's discounted price. BTW, it is my belief that this album would make a killer rock musical.

I LOVED I Get Wet.
It is likely one of my all time favorite records, and maybe you will base your reaction to my review based on that fact, but AWK rocked so hard in I Get Wet that it was only measurable on a scale of simultaneous orgasms. The Wolf is NOT as good as I Get Wet. I was heartbroken, but if you're getting The Wolf hoping its just as AWESOME, you're in for a letdown. However, if this is your first Andrew WK record, or you are just getting it without expectations, I recommend it highly. He is truly a genius without bounds.
