5.0 out of 5 stars the successor of Fischer-Dieskau, November 30, 1999
This review is from: Wolf & Korngold: Eichendorff-Lieder (Audio CD)
The Danish baritone Boje Skovhus can safely be named as the only successor to the great Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Exceptionally clear delivery, complete understanding of the texts, intelligence and musicality are immediately evident when you listen to this wonderful collection of Eichendorff poems set to music by Wolf and Korngold. Another pleasant similarity is Skovhus's light, subtle and flexible instrument equally capable of projecting beautiful tender pianissimos (Nachtzauber) and humorous sparkle (Der Soldat I). It's wonderful to see such a diverse group among today's top baritones: Hampson, Hvorostovsky, Chernov and Skovhus. They are all very different and very talented. Helmut Deutsch provides sophisticated warm support and the recording quality is exceptional. Sony also provided good and complete translations. Don't miss!

5.0 out of 5 stars A soft and sensitive Eichendorf Lied, May 17, 2002
By
This review is from: Wolf & Korngold: Eichendorff-Lieder (Audio CD)
This CD shows once again Bo Skovhus as a very sensitive and profound Lieder interpretator. His pronounciation is commentable, and his almost velvet-like voice sounds clear and caressing. It takes much more than one hearing to feel his special approach, however, the more one listens to it, the more one likes it. The songs are not so well known as Schubert's, which he also sings in two excellent CDs, and the choice is really moving. The Pianist Helmut Deutsch with his gentle tones completes perfectly this perfect performance.
