Book Description

A concerned sister...

Chloe Madison would do anything to find her missing brother. When she stumbles upon some information that leads her to a nearby military science facility, she doesn't hesitate to sneak under the barbed wire fence and steal some files. Everything seems to be going to plan. That is, until a handsome soldier finds her with her hands in his filing cabinet. Instead of reporting her, he lets her go. She hurries home, his golden eyes all she can think of.

A broken soldier...

Captain Jackson Wolfe just returned from a hellish tour of duty in Afghanistan. Scarred and hiding terrible secrets, he is sent to a desk job. He just recently found out the hard way that he was a werewolf. Not only that, as far as he knows, he's the only one of his kind. He knows he shouldn't be around people and keeps to himself until he sees Chloe stealing files. He knows he should stop her, but her scent and something in her eyes stops him.

A coverup worth killing for...

When Wolfe follows Chloe to the library, he discovers that he's not the only one of his kind. Someone doesn't like that Chloe has been digging around, threatening to expose the secrets of her brother and the wolf shifters. In fact, they're willing to kill to stop her.

Wolfe knows that he must protect Chloe. After all, she may be the only thing that can save him from himself.

A scent hung in the air that made something primal in the pit of his stomach tighten and ache with joy. The hair on the base of his skull tingled and his eyes lit up with a golden fire. He could barely detect it, even with his enhanced senses, but what he could smell was something that sent shivers of pleasure down his spine.

He gave a smooth about-face, sucking air into his nose to try and fill himself with the scent. It was flowers and sunshine with just a touch of something that made him start to ache with want. His feet carried him forward, his nose pulling in the scent like a rope as he worked down the hallway toward the Records Room.

The door to the room was ajar, letting out a thin sliver of yellow light onto the dark hallway floor. He whined softly with anticipation as the scent grew stronger the closer he came to the golden light. Moving softly, he crept up to the door, peeking through the thin slit to peer inside.

A girl in mint green scrubs and a blue winter jacket sat kneeling on the floor. Her light brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail that trailed down her back in soft tendrils. It took all his willpower not to reach out and touch it to feel its silky softness and bury his face in her scent...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Poignant December 22, 2013
By ~Cerys
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've been a fan of Krista Lakes and her stories for awhile now, starting with all of the Kisses books and branching out from there. To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to think of this one, since the premise seemed so different from those ones. I love shifter romance stories, though, and so I definitely wanted to give it a try.

I can safely say that I'm rather pleased with the outcome, too!

Right from the start, this story pulls you into the lives of Chloe and Jackson. What I liked the most about that is how they don't meet immediately and are brought together later, almost as if they were fated to meet. This is really similar to what many shifter romance stories do, at least from what I've read, except this one takes an entirely different and unique route for that first" fated" meeting. In fact, it's even kind of innocuous almost, except for the fact that Chloe is snooping around where she probably shouldn't be...

Everything from then on becomes really interesting. There's a love story in here, but there's so much more, too. Military conspiracies, experiments, paranormal people and situations, and more than a fair helping of romance, too. This story is literally everything that a shifter romance should be, but heightened even more and made better because of it.

If you've read other books by Krista Lakes, I am positive you'll love this one. If you haven't and this is your first, it's a great starting point! Her writing is always poetic and emotional, with the story that I think every reader craves.

I'd highly recommend Wolf Six's Salvation!

2.0 out of 5 stars Generic January 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A conspiracy werewolf romance where the conspiracy, werewolves, and romance are handled too quickly, this book felt really generic. Jackson Wolfe (groan) is an Army Captain dealing with a secret that he thinks will leave him forever alone -- when he gets too excited or upset, he turns into a wolf. Chloe is a PhD candidate who is searching for her lost brother. He enlisted in the Army and vanished and her only clues have to do with the "Lycan gene." I will be discussing some spoilers below, although my opinion is that there isn't much to this plot to spoil.

This is a "fated mate" story, which means that -- once Jackson and Chloe meet -- they don't have to do anything to grow or develop their relationship. I'm not a fan of the "fated mate" concept, but it doesn't doom a book as long as the hero and heroine still have obstacles to overcome. Unfortunately for this book, every obstacle put in their way is a paper tiger. What looks like a massive government conspiracy turns out to involve just two people, one of them a total wimp and the other one as dumb as a box of rocks. The whole "werewolf" thing isn't really a big deal, as there is a super-friendly pack and one of the most trusted people in Chloe's life turns out to already be a werewolf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot shifter romance with a military twist! December 23, 2013
By AnnaV
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I’m a big fan of the current shifter romance craze and am always intrigued by authors who put a unique spin on it. In this story, the military theme works very, very well.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. The description of the werewolf gene was really interesting and presented in a way that wasn’t to “sciencey” for a romance. Wolfe’s PTSD was handled with an authentic voice that brought his character to life and made me think that Ms. Lakes clearly did her research before tackling the sensitive topic. And the sexy shirts vs. skins football game between the soldiers? Let’s just say that it was HOT!

I don’t want to spoil the plot, but I will say that this is a 5-star read and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this outstanding author!

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars December 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I snapped this one up when it was free, so for a free book it was great. However I found the love between the two main characters a little rushed (I get that's the point, but I didn't really feel the connection between them) and her concern for her brother fueled her determination, but that seemed to disappear quickly when Jackson comes around. Example when they're staying at the hotel room. She's waiting for news on her brother, but she's happy to think about sex and forget about him when she was meant to be worried sick. But really, I'm just nitpicking. Krista Lakes has an excellent way of writing, and if you enjoy paranormal romances and enjoy her other work, then I think this is worth a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story, needs an editor March 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoy supernatural romance and erotic romance novels and I could have enjoyed this so much more. Please, please, please hire a proofreader / editor. There were so many grammatical errors particularly during stressful or romantic scenes it was distracting and frankly, very irritating. And I recommend you purchase a thesaurus while you are at it. Men, strong military men do not, absolutely do not whine or whimper, werewolf or not. Geez. And the word "moment" OMG. In a moment, then in the next moment, the following moment, a moment she would could never forget. And now it's a moment I won't forget either. Fix it and you've got a great love story. Otherwise forget it...

Fun, with a bit more logic to it than most military werewolf stories. But mostly an excuse for seemingly unending pages of sex. I'm glad it was free. Read more
