4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, if you know how wolves REALLY sound, December 2, 1999

Wolves sound very eerie, not only howling but yipping as well, and when it is all hear together in the pack, it doesn't sound like what most expect. The cd wasn't bad though it had more sounds of wind, birds, and other animals throughout it. I noticed that every different sound must have been sampled in some way and is just played along with other sounds, because they slowly faded into eachother. For example, the wind will be blowing and you'll hear some birds in the back ground, then suddenly wolves will howl VERY loudly and sound like they are right next to you, never like they are moving away. Then after they are done, the wind goes away and you'll begin to hear water or another natural earth sound along with some different birds. Perhaps the producer of the cd wanted to make it sound like the scenes were changing because it'd be quite boring without it. Over all I liked it though the wolf calls just fade in, get extremely loud and cover every other sound up, then fade away to reveal the background sounds once again. I'm just glad there were more wolf sounds on this cd than there are on others that claim to be revolving around the wolf. This one actually stuck to the title. :)

Wolf Talk by NorthSound (Northword Press)

Total time is 53:44.

2 tracks

1)28.54
2)24:50

You have 53 minutes of nature/climate sounds interspersed with wolf howling, crying, and pack sounds.

This wasn't what I expected at all -- the wolf sound samples (about 30+ seconds)are looped.

There's about 5 minutes total of actual wolf/wolves recording and I'm probably being generous with 5 minutes.

One could assume each wolf sample was given letters, eg, wolf sound A, wolf sound B, and so on.

The sound engineer mixed A, B, C or D in with whatever the track was focussed on at the moment -- wind, light rain, crickets, or birds. "A" here, then "C", then "B", then "A" again, and so on, about every 2 minutes. It wouldn't that bad if it weren't so blantantly obvious you just heard the same wolf sample 6 to 8 minutes ago.

I'd give it a zero if I could, but it has a nice crow/wind/other bird moment midway the 2nd track. About a minute and a half's worth, which unfortunately is interrupted by a wolf sample that I'd heard 4 minutes earlier.

Instead, look for Wild Wolves by Nature's Rhythms or Loups en Liberte Wailing Wolves by Jean C Roche.

Listening to this cd makes you feel like you're out in the unspoiled wilds, hearing all the wildlife around you. From chirping crickets to a babbling brook, you hear wolves "singing" throughout this wonderful cd. If you want to hear mostly wolf song, and not music drowning them out, this is the cd for you.
