Biography

Wolfmother are a modern band who sound strangely old. Their music has all the hallmarks of classic 70s stoner rock. Critical comparisons are often made to their similarities with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but there's enough of a new twist, a dash of White Stripes and an edgy delivery which tips its hat to a more modern day sound.

After jamming together for years, friends Andrew Stockdale… Read more in Amazon's Wolfmother Store

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what rock was meant to be!, February 15, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wolfmother (Audio CD)
It is an indisputable fact that real rock has gone by the wayside. Often we hear of a band that has brought it back, only to find out they missed the mark by a long shot.

WOLFMOTHER has hit that mark and obliterated it! The crunchy chords; the distortion; the somewhat muffled drums; the vocals out front: it has the ingredients that made their predecessors huge. If you're into that 60's and 70's hard rock sound that was coined by bands like Jo Jo Gunne, Spirit, Spooky Tooth, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath (with Ozzy), and Pink Floyd, then you will love this album!

"Wolfmother" is the closest thing we have to that feeling our parents got when they first put Led Zeppelin's IV or The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers on the record player. They were blown away, just as you will be when you get to Wolfmother's "White Unicorn" or "Woman". Powerful, rockin' songs that MUST be played loud!

"Apple Tree" has a bit (just a bit!) of rockabilly/50's pop hiding beneath those power chords -- ingenious!

The song called "Joker and The Thief" is the only place that I can hear The White Stripes connection that some are making. If you like The White Stripes it shouldn't be a stretch to enjoy these guys as well; all without feeling like you're cheating on The White Stripes.

"Witchcraft" has that Jethro Tull sound that has made its way into so many bands' influences. Somehow they manage to once again show their influences without making you go, "Oh that's so Jethro Tull." Okay, maybe some can.

If you are new to Wolfmother, then this album should be the first one you buy. It has most of the songs that are on the singles, and much cooler artwork.

And for crying out loud, go see them live! They are coming to America (from Australia) in 2006!

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget Album of the Year, Try Album of the Past TEN Years!!!!, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Wolfmother (Audio CD)
I will keep it short, this is absolutely one of the best CD's you will ever hear. As the first song is appropriately titled Colossal, this band is about to become Colossal. So if you can, go return your Maroon 5 CD's, your Hanson CD's, and go out and get something that will blow your mind! Even though it is only available as an Import until May 1st, go out and spend the extra money; like you need food, and like you need water, trust me you will need this CD(and no I don't work for the band).

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome threesome, February 20, 2006
This review is from: Wolfmother (Audio CD)
Ok, I just got back from Perth's Big Day Out. I was there to see Iggy and the Stooges, but some enthusiastic surffer boys commanded me to go see Wolfmother. So I did (Iggy too), and I was blown away!! This disc is classic rock. Crunch power chords mixed with progressive rock concepts and wonderful pop harmonies, and spine tingling vocal acrobatics. Minds Eye starts out sounding like Radiohead, then morphs into some classic power rock from a by-gone era. Dimensions is pure hard rock candy. It is hard to believe this is a threesome generating so much hard core sound. GET IT! You'll love it!
