1.0 out of 5 stars Defective
Since purchasing this item in June of 2009. The first one lasted about two or three months. It died while I was on vacation. First it slowly started to work intermittently then just stopped. I sent it in for repair, I was sent back a replacement in about 2 weeks. The replacement again, faulted on me. So once again I paid to ship it to California for repair or...

I have always attempted to track where I took a photo manually. When I purchased the Nikon D300 and learned of it's capability to accept GPS input and record it in the metadata with the photograph I was eager to try it.

After looking at several options and not wanting to spend a great deal, I purchased the Wolverine GEO-35. I am very please with my selection. It works exactly as stated.

Pros:
- Small and light
- Comes with velcro and a plastic shoe to attach it to the hot shoe of the camera
- On/off switch saves the camera battery
- Flashing/steady light indicates the GPS status

Cons:
- Takes a long time to establish a connection and start recording the GPS info. Although I have yet to time it, it is much slower than my Garmin eTrex GPS
- You are unable to use the flash when the GPS is attached. I am hoping to figure out a way around this.

I sent it in for repair, I was sent back a replacement in about 2 weeks. The replacement again, faulted on me. So once again I paid to ship it to California for repair or replacement. Once again they replaced it. The latest one no longer works, all in all each one lasted an average of 4 months. The warranty is now up and I'm left with nothing. Do not purchase this product, the quality is garbage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wolverine Geotagger...don't buy it!, June 25, 2010
This review is from: Wolverine GEO-35/GEO35 Geotag GPS Receiver for Nikon and Fuji DSLR's (Electronics)
Hard to count on a product when you are on trips all over the world relying on it
and it just dies. Have sent it back twice. I can no longer recommend this product on my websites.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works great, until it doesn't, July 24, 2010

This device works great... until it doesn't. As others have stated, the Wolverine just dies and there is nothing you can do. By die, I mean no power indicator, no flashing 'GPS' on my camera display, and certainly no geotagged photos. I've been through 3 of these cheap pieces of crap. It ends here and now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wolverine GEO-35 review, March 11, 2010
This review is from: Wolverine GEO-35/GEO35 Geotag GPS Receiver for Nikon and Fuji DSLR's (Electronics)
I purchased this unit last September before a planned trip out west. I was Geo Tagging prior to this with a Garmin connected to my camera. After the second day of my trip the wolverine would work sometimes and the quit and has now died completely. I wish now I had spent the extra $$ and bought the Nikon. I would not recommend the Wolverine GPS to anyone. I was using the unit with my Nikon D300.

The ability to geo-tag photos is brilliant. I purchased two of these (for my Nikon D200 & D700) both units died within the first 6 months of use. I do quite a bit of air travel so I'm not sure if over time airport x-ray scanners have had some kind of cumulative impact. I now have a Nikon GP-1 (4 months now) and although it has not gone through airport scans it seems to be working fine so far.

Geo-tagging your photos is fantastic. I love clicking on a photo and having Google Earth pop up and you can see where you were standing when you took the photo. Especially when over the years you go to similar looking locations in different parts of the country. That being said I was very pleased with the preformance of this unit. I found that even though you have to turn the GPS off separatly from your camera, my D300 had enough battry power to last the day, leaving it on.That way it was always ready when I shot a picture. Unfortunately the third trip I took it on, it died early in the trip. Like so many things in life, you don't know how much you need something until you have it, then don't. They replaced it quickly, but the fact that I see that someone else had the same issue makes me wonder about it's reliability. I highly recommend a GPS for your camera, if it is working this one works well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Died after a few months, January 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wolverine GEO-35/GEO35 Geotag GPS Receiver for Nikon and Fuji DSLR's (Electronics)
The GPS worked well but construction seemed flimsy and it died after a few months. I contacted customer support and they shipped me a new unit, which also died after a few months. I got a third one and the same thing happened again and now I am out of warranty. Needless to say I will not purchase another Wolverine GPS. The customer service was excellent though.
