Book Description

Marvel's Finest
Wolverine's past is full of nasty characters, but few as fiendish as the White Ghost, a murderous mercenary whom Logan thought he'd left for dead during his spy years! But this Ghost won't be laid to rest until he's run Wolverine through a gauntlet of Adamantium weapons, killing the mutant maverick with the very metal that's saved his life so many times! Unwilling to risk his friends, Wolverine stands alone in a story of intrigue, romance and devastation, culminating in a clash between two killers! Collects Wolverine #119-122.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's for the big-time action fans, December 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Wolverine: Not Dead Yet (Marvel's Finest) (Paperback)
I am not much of a Marvel Mutant follower, but when I came across this 4 part story by Warren Ellis I figured it was worth a shot. Boy howdy, this thing was pretty damned exciting. Chinese gangsters, raving lunatic over-the-hill Scottish master assasins, love, death, revenge, car crashes, motocycle chases and not so much as a *scrap* of spandex in sight. This is a Logan action thriller, not a super hero story, and it rocks. Now issued as a trade paperback, it's got so much commercial potential it should be made into a movie. A first-rate, thoroughly enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible art coupled with an original story line, July 28, 2001

This review is from: Wolverine: Not Dead Yet (Marvel's Finest) (Paperback)
This is one of those stories that's smart and entertaining and features everybody's favorite X-man: Wolverine. Wolverine finds his apartment blown to bits and his tenants executed in the style of one of his former foes: McLeish. The story is not about revenge as much as it is about the way Wolverine has evolved from his early days when he met McLeish in Hong Kong. Physically Wolverine is as fit as he ever was, but mentally he has evolved, he's much wiser, but he's pushed to the edge in this one, and we get to see that feral side we just love. The art is so perfect for the story, when Logan is riding his motorcycle in those lonely woods at night in autumn, man just look at those dark colors, sensational! The flashbacks provide alot of information, and for the most part answer all your questions(except one), very insightful, and shed some much needed light on Wolverine's shady past. I strongly recomend this paperback to every Wolvie fan out there, you really don't know what your missing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be 3 and 1/2 stars, December 19, 1999

I bought this book for two reasons: Warren Ellis' writing and Leinil Yu's artwork. It was, in fact, Warren Ellis' raving about Yu's artwork that interested me in this collaboration. And he's right. Yu can draw exciting action sequences, vary his camera angle, do detailed and lovely facial expressions, backgrounds and clothes. All this, without, as the other review pointed out, *any* spandex costumes. The writing also, is sharp, as you would expect from Warren Ellis, although I suspect it doesn't cover any new ground with Wolverine. But hey, Yu's artwork is a treat and paces well with Ellis' script.
