I am having a hard time getting started with this book. I'm sure it's simply a byproduct of translating from a book to Kindle, but the constant hyphenation of words is horrible. Amazon, do a better job and proof read these titles!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Were Those Guys?, January 29, 2000
Ah, yes, the novel that presented us with the original enigma of the Inner Sphere, Wolf's Dragoons. Read it for the first time in 1987, I think, and it's thankfully reprinted for all you youngsters and latecomers. The tale of strangers who show up in a war-ravaged universe with military technology the likes of which hasn't been seen in 300 years, and don't answer a thing about anything. A wonderful tie-in with the wedding scene in Warrior: Coupe, and plenty of my junior-high femme fantastique, Natasha Kerensky. A must-read for ANYONE who's ever dreamed of sporting the red-trimmed black of the Dragoons, for it's not just a paint job, people, it's a way of life, "until we all shall fall..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Testing Wolf's Dragoons, September 4, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This book, which is probably one of the best Battletech novels out there, gives us a look at how House Kurita and Wolf's Dragoons became enemies. Minobu Tetsuhara is the Combine's liason officer with the Dragoons after House Kurita hires the vaunted mercenaries. Tetsuhara must learn from the Dragoons as the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine, Takashi Kurita, orders him to create a unit that mimics the Dragoons' style. Events come to a head when the Coordinator arranges to keep the Dragoons contract and Tetsuhara must choose between facing off with the Dragoons or dishonoring himself as a samurai of the Draconis Combine. Set before the coming of the Clans and the just-finished FedCom civil war, this is Battletech still at its best (before major word limits cut out the legs of many novels). Highly enjoyable, especially if you read the Warrior Trilogy, Blood of Kerensky Trilogy, Heir to the Dragon, and Wolf Pack, a sequel to this novel also by Mr. Charrette.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool book, June 19, 1999

I liked this book, because it's tell how the Ryuken was formed and why Draconis combine hate Wolf dragoon's. It's certanly the btech novels with the best battle in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for old hands and new bloods alike, October 28, 1997
By A Customer
This was a well written book, whether you want information for your own games or just like action and sci-fi realism. This book gives insight into both the Battletech universe and the code of the Bushido - and the betrayers of that code. Well worth the read no matter what your prefferred sci-fi or action interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5star book, May 1, 2003

Not much bad to write about this one.
I but I never expected the end, at least not the the
person of whom you least expect it.
Even though it only took me a little over 8 hours to finish, I
would definitely read this one again for the sake of the author ;)
He did one heck of a job. Characters aren't shallow and are
well thought out. Can hardly wait to get my hands on Wolf Pack.

In a nutshell, I highly recommand this one to all Battletech Fans who still don't know how the Dragoons and Draconis Combine
got set against each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charette is the real Battletech god!!, July 14, 1999
This Battletech novel is one of the best. It gives you an insight into the thoughts and philosophy of the people of the Draconis Combine and introduces you into the warrior code of Bushido. In addition to that,it describes the strong Russian influence in the Combine very well,a fact that is kind of neglected in the newer Battletech novels. And if you ever wanted to understand Takashi Kuritas twisted honor code as Coordinator, this is the book for it.Furthermore, you learn all about the elite mercenary Regiments of Wolfs Dragoons and their leader,Colonel Jamie Wolf. This is definitely the novel for all serious Battletech fans and Science Fiction lovers as well.So go and get it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun book, but the Kindle edition is terrible., August 9, 2011

I've owned my Kindle since April, and in that time, I've grown to love the device. Even more so when I took a long trip abroad and was able to bring both plenty of heavy and light reading all in a small package. But this book alone has convinced me that Amazon needs to create a two-tiered ratings system for the Kindle: One to rate the book itself, and another the ebook formatting.

"Wolves on the Border" is a fun yarn, exactly the sort of space-pulp BattleTech was at its best. The story is a definite, solid three stars. But the formatting! This book obviously did not go through an editor after the initial text conversion. It did not even go through spell-check. Most pages have two or more words with hyphens from the original's line-breaks, italics come and go, letters are misinterpreted, and so on. A simple bit of editing would have made the book immensely more enjoyable. I have definitely learned to check the free samples of books from here on out.

For readers wanting some classic, pre-Clan Invasion BattleTech on their Kindle, Michael Stackpole's "Warrior Trilogy" is both a better story and far better formatted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gool Battletech novel, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have read a lot of Battletech novels. This one is good, but it's not one of the best. I liked, however, the epilogue because it solved a mystery from the Warrior Trilogy.

This book explains the rivalry between Kurita and Wolves Dragoons. The continuation of this book (Wolf Pack) should make it to the Kindle Edition too so people can follow the story.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Book but the typos are driving me nut, December 5, 2010
I was very happy to see that some of the classic battletech novels are now available for the kindle but there are at least one word per page that is hyphenated and sometimes many words. It really detracts from the enjoyment of the story. I just finished the Warrior trilogy by Stackpole which didn't have this problem. I would recommend not purchasing this until they re-edit the novel
