Really good short last minute book!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wolves (Paperback)
This book is really good. There are really big pictures that give you an image of what they are saying. The words are really big which makes it easy to read. Seymoue Simon talks about the relationship between humans and wolves. He talkes all about wolves. I think everyone should read this book!

Debunks some of the myths about wolves,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Wolves (Paperback)
Even though nearly everyone has a close association with domesticated wolves, there is a common and unwarranted hysteria about them. This unwarranted thought process has led to them being reviled by many and hunted to near extinction. Plans by wildlife managers to re-introduce them into places like Yellowstone Park have met with strong and at times irrational resistance. This book is designed to set the record straight and to show wolves as they truly are.
Wolves are pack animals and very intelligent. While they are feared by many, instances of a healthy wolf engaging in an unprovoked attack trying to kill a human are unknown. Wolves generally hunt small game such as mice and rabbits, so left to themselves; they keep the undesirable animal numbers down. They rarely interact with humans, and even the instances of wolves attacking livestock appear to be exaggerated. This book is an excellent primer on how wolves live. Humans have little to fear from them, more damage is done by domesticated wolves (dogs) per year than by wild wolves. By reading this book, you will know how they act, which is not so different from dogs.

I ordered this book for my son before he could read for himself, and I think he was just too young for it at the time. The photographs of wolves in the wild are beautiful and interesting, but there is only one large photo for each page of text. My little boy kept wanting to flip to the next page before I was finished reading because there are several paragraphs of information per page and reading it took longer than his attention span could handle.
The book is informative and good for kids who are interested in wildlife, plus it has a conservationist message. There were bits of info I thought were interesting, such as the different subspecies of wolves in North America, the fact that packs have both an Alpha and a Beta wolf, and about wolf-dog hybrids that are sometimes kept as pets. (The author says this is dangerous due to the wolf personality being unsuited for domestication). Even though my child was a bit too young for the book, it's still an interesting wildlife book I'd recommend for children approximately ages 7-11.

My nephew is not interested yet, but this is a good book to educate children on these beautiful creatures. It is a simply worded book with a lot of information and pictures.
