Great book for women, young or old.,
By
This review is from: A Woman After God's Own Heart® (Paperback)
I am inclined to disagree with the reviewer who felt the book read like a "1950's Home Ec. Book." I'm in my late 20's, and while the book is not written with the modern feminist movement in mind, it is still a great book with wonderful ideas. Yes, women were created to be a "help-mate" for men, specifically, to our husbands. Women were/are instructed by the Apostle Paul to respect and to submt ourselves to our husbands, which is what Mrs. George emphasizes.
As for being "physically available" for our husbands, not only is it Biblical - but in the book, Mrs. George is referring to women who withhold sex from their husbands as "punishment" for some transgression. As for the comment that the author commends a woman for dropping out of Bible study to spend time with her husband, it was taken out of context. In the book, a friend of the author had to choose between her Wednesday "morning out/ladies brunch/Bible study" and spending the day with her husband, whose day off fell on Wednesday. I commend the author for standing up for the traditional marriage relationship. No, everything she says won't work for every couple, but the main idea is to make your husband your #2 priority (after God - of course) I believe that author makes a very good argument for the relationship between a husband and wife. So often in marriages the couple grows apart and children, careers, and selfish behavior take over. I think this book is great reading, as are all of Mrs. George's books.

I have felt more fulfilled with my daily life after reading and applying this book.,

This book is a wonderful resource for putting things in perspective in an increasingly busy world. George has a fabulous system for organizing your daily to-do list: start with ordering your priorities and then schedule them in every day. First is time with God, second is your spouse, third is your children, fourth is your home, fifth is your own personal growth, sixth is your ministries, and seventh is anything else that doesn't fall into those categories (errands, movies, etc.)
Now, I tweaked the system a bit to personalize it for my life. I don't have children, and I schedule TV time in with my husband almost daily because it's something we enjoy. And the realization that the time I spend talking to and uplifting my friends, family members, and church members is actually a ministry-it's something important to me and God-made me realize I am spending quality time on Earth doing a quality job for Heaven. Plus, it's given me the push to make sure I contact people more regularly because it's worth the time. I've read the other reviews and realize some people think the book is archaic for stating that women are on assignment from God to help their husbands, but according to the Bible we are: we are here to help everyone we know do their best to get to heaven and do the most to further His kingdom. I don't know of a better way than to spend our time serving anyone we can, most especially our husbands. I have read this book several times now, making notes and lists of tips to take for my own life to improve my servitude. I have felt the change. As a twenty-something, I have given this book to friends from 29 to 64 to help them make the most of organizing their own time to work for God in all facets of life.

This book has been life changing for me. Elizabeth Gearge inspired me in a way like never before. She prioritzes the things in our lives that matter most. I absolutely believe she aligns with God's word and teaches women how to be the GODLY women we long to be. By breaking down each area of our lives and giving practical, realistic ideas for living each of these areas in a way that glorifies our God, Elizabeth gives truly applicable and easily obtainable thoughts and direction for daily living.
If you would like to become a woman who has a passion for God's word, a daily prayer life and a truly blessed walk with God, this book is for you! I am now going through the accompanying study guide and am continuing to grow spiritually. This book should be a MUST READ for every christian woman!!!!!!!

Great book, if you don't take it to extremes.,
This review is from: A Woman After God's Own Heart® (Paperback)
My mother bought this book for my wife as well as a man after Gods own heart for me. My wife and I read each then switched. I have to say, I really enjoyed both books. Unfortunately, it seems that the minute we say "submission" in our world we are attacked as the idea has now become that submission makes women less than men. I believe the total opposite. Women today have such a great opportunity to show Gods love to their spouses, neighbors and kids. The example I can think of is the idea of having dinner ready when your husband comes home. Now, I understand that it is not always that simple, and really it's not always my wife's job to make dinner, especially if she's been out all day. But when I get home and I smell dinner almost ready, my love for my wife grows so much in that moment-not only love but pride.
The core of the issue anyway is the idea that wives should submit to husbands, it's Biblical and it's true. Now I'd assume I'm going to hear negatives about this review, that's fine. However I'd much rather my wife read this book and take a few lessons from it than not. My wife has also enjoyed the change in me from "Man after gods own heart" as well as "Husband after Gods own heart". The Bible is full with how a marriage should be. The issue is no person is perfect and now submission has become a bad word. In all honesty, I submit to my wife just as Christ submitted to the Church. And I try to NEVER lord over my wife, that's God's job not mine. Recommend the read, just read it slowly. When she tells someone not to go to Bible college because her husband doesn't want her to, my first thought was-wow-why not? Then after talking to my wife it made a ton of sense. If this lady would have gone, her relationship with her husband would have suffered. God does not want our marriages to suffer. So in this case not going to Bible school is no different than not going to a bar, or not going to a movie. Now extreme view would say "well then as a wife you can't go to church if your husband doesn't want you to." Both men and women have commands from God. Going to church is something that is a big deal biblical, going to college isn't.

Inspiring,
By Tara (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Woman After God's Own Heart® (Paperback)
I absolutely love this book. It's one of my favorites and I am an avid reader. This book really inspired me to make some meaningful changes to my life. One of my favorite things about the book is how she talks about picking five topics that you want to become an expert in and studying up on those topics so that you become an expert in a few things rather than knowing a little bit about a lot of things. This is a very practical book and I believe that anyone who follows the advice in this book will see improvements to their life. I will definitely recommend this book to other women.

This book is amazing!,
This review is from: A Woman After God's Own Heart® (Paperback)
I keep coming back to the principles in this book. I first read it in my 20's and have come back to it many times over the years. I believe she is "right on" with the word of God which is never old fashioned. I truly believe that even Christian marriages fail because priorities are misplaced. This is a classic!
