5.0 out of 5 stars beauty
it was the cover photo that drew me to this book when i first saw it. the photo is sensual without being philistine, erotic without being raunchy. the rest of the book follows suite. bitesnich's startling, languid exploration of the female form makes this book a must have for all those who love beauty.

3.0 out of 5 stars What can I say?, July 2, 2001
This review is from: Woman (Hardcover)
I bought this book primarily because I am a big fan of Andreas. I bought his first book "Nudes" two years ago and I have not regreted it since. I constantly pick it up for the sensuality and the power that resonates in the pictures.

That being said I am not that thrilled about "Women". The photography is nice, it is the poses I have a problem with. I don't have a problem with looking at (atheltic)nude women. In fact I derive a lot of inspiration from them. But these are usually the sort of women who have a sort of "regal" and "dignified" look to them. In short the model has to give off an aura that she is there for herself and not simply to titilate men. Which unfortunetly is what "Women" does.

The photos for "Women" primarily consist of left over shots he did for Playboy and Max. So in short the photography basically fits into the realm of titilation.

So while you may want to purchase this book for Andreas formidable photography. Keep in mind the subject mater.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Finest of Fine Art Nudes, August 19, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Woman (Hardcover)
I have been a Fine Art Photographer for 35 years photographing mainly nudes. I am VERY opinionated in this arena. Most books of fashion models posing nude are little more than curiosities. People like to see famous/beautiful people nude in exotic locations and yes there is that here in "Woman". And while it may not fulfill the pretentious title, the photography is exceptional through out! I have not seen a book of this quality in years. Anyone interested in this area of Fine Art Photography has to purchase this book.

There is no color. The B&W images are so good, they capture the true essence of beauty. Enhancing the female body by ten. This book made my wife (she is not impressed easily) stop and admire the quality of the photography and the beauty of the women.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Photographic Female Form as Sculpture, August 24, 2005
By
Andreas Bitesnich is an artistic photographer who seems set on molding the human body into sculptural forms, emphasizing light and dark as it embraces athletic, oiled models. His previous book 'Nudes' is striking portfolio of male and female models posed as still life cold forms. Here his attention is limited to female models and hence the name WOMAN. And it is stunning.

In WOMAN Bitesnich has selected only a few models, women with perfectly formed bodies (genetically yes, but enhanced by obvious workouts to define muscle mass beneath near zero body fact integuments). The results are elegantly posed nudes asked to pose in impossibly difficult fields of tension, setups that create sculptural forms that are dazzling. The quality of the reproductions is superb and the format of the book is elegant and speaks solidly of fine craftsmanship on the part of all those involved in its creation.

Bitesnich now needs to explore more of the inner meaning of his work, having mastered the visual metaphors. Grady Harp, August 05

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB!, September 2, 2005
This review is from: Woman (Hardcover)
Wow what a book...

This is one that you can gush on and on about endlessly. I could write for an hour about this. Suffice to say that Mr. Bitesnich is absolutely one the greatest phot-oartists to ever point a camera at another human being. These pictures are speechlessly powerful, and unlike so many other books, the cover is truly representative of what's inside. Page after page, it just gets better and better. He has more talent than probably the next 5 top nude photoartists combined, really. He's that good.

The models are perfect. The quality of this book is perfection from the printing to the binding to the paper. It's big, it's beautiful and it'd be a steal even if it costed twice as much as it does.

If you like nude photography, BUY THIS BOOK. You will not be disappointed.

Superb work Mr. Bitesnich! Thank you for making this book!

This is a legendary book from one of the worlds finest photographers, and when it arrived i was so shocked as it was the large oversized version, which is very rare. A must for all that study fine art and the human form.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong and elegant, June 3, 2009

That describes the models themselves as well as this collection as a whole. The photos here range from sensual portraiture to a boudoir kind of gentle eroticism - even though all or nearly all of the photos were taken outdoors. Bitesnitch has an unusual sense for the sculptural qualities of his models, not just as women but as complex, organic structures. He somehow emphasizes that quality with an unusual look that appears in the cover photo: an under-exposed feel that darkens the skin tones, but that illustrates form with glowing highlights against that dark tone.

A few of these images (e.g. some of Ulrika 1993 and Astrid 1996) really stand out among the generally strong entries here. As with any varied collection, though, a few strands don't do much for me. In this case, it's Bitesnitch's sand-on-skin series - although I appreciate the contrasting textures, it just looks uncomfortable to me. I don't expect to like everything, however, and those don't detract from the overall experience of this enjoyable collection.

PS: Maybe it's just my used copy, but a weak binding gives reason for my one complaint: it's falling apart! grr.
