5.0 out of 5 stars This is a "must read" for every Christian woman and man!
Patricia Gundry skillfully and bravely tackles and refutes the topic of traditional male and female "roles" within the church. 1.0 out of 5 stars Another book promoting selfishness over God
This book says that The Bible doesn't say what it says. Then it says that even though it says it, it doesn't really mean it because The Bible was translated by males and is therefore biased against females. Thus, if you are female you can simply disregard what The Bible says and do what you want, but still be a Christian. This is a common technique used to lure immature...

This review is from: Woman Be Free (Paperback)
Patricia Gundry skillfully and bravely tackles and refutes the topic of traditional male and female "roles" within the church. Every Christian woman who has not felt comfortable with the role many evangelical churches have tried to squeeze her into (not teaching men in churches, being quiet and always submissive, husband making all the big decisions in the home, etc.) finally can read a Christian book that clearly displays how God desires a woman to pursue her gifts and abilities without regards to gender. This book delves into specific biblical passages that the church has traditionally used to "keep women in their place" and discusses why many of these verses were based on cultural circumstances and specific male-biased choices in interpreting the Greek text.

God has always seen male and female as equals. (Galatians 3:28) Assigning different "roles" and tasks that can only be done by a specific gender (except for the obvious childbirth, etc.) causes some churches to support the idea of males and females being "separate, but equal." However, as history has proved to us, especially through the black civil rights movement, separate is inherently unequal.

This book is exciting, relatively short (just over 100 pgs.), and packed with powerful, rarely spoken insights. I highly recommend it to all!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an extremly good book for men to read as well as women., October 20, 2007
This review is from: Woman Be Free! (Paperback)
Women can see that you have to look at things for yourself and that just because something has been done for as far back as they can remember does not mean that it's right. Five Stars!!!!!

This book says that The Bible doesn't say what it says. Then it says that even though it says it, it doesn't really mean it because The Bible was translated by males and is therefore biased against females. Thus, if you are female you can simply disregard what The Bible says and do what you want, but still be a Christian. This is a common technique used to lure immature Christians away from their faith by appealing to self-centeredness and envy. There are a million different books with essentially this same message, and all lead away from Christ.
