5.0 out of 5 stars What a "Woman!", February 12, 2003
This review is from: Woman (Audio CD)
Christina Aguilera, Thalia, Nelly Furtado -- all of them are nothing beside the beautiful and talented Marta Sanchez. "Woman" (English version of the Spanish "Mujeres") is beautiful, heady and sexy, great songs and wonderful vocals.

It kicks off with the wonderful "Desesperada," a song about a pair of young lovers from different social rungs, who are "gonna run away again/tonight, tonight, and there are a pair of extra mixes of this one at the end of the CD; there are many catchy love songs like "Lover in a Million," the soaring "Where the Love Never Ends," or the confident "Whatever It Takes." There are also a few ballads, like the lullaby-like "Be Careful of Your Dreams," or the low-key but very stirring "Out of the Night," where the most prominent instrument is Marta's own voice.

Marta's voice is fantastic, deep and throaty and flexible. There is no screeching and no weird effects. The background music is very danceable, very Latin and very catchy; the lyrics of the songs are very interesting, very well written. Best of all, the pulsing music never drowns out Marta -- a lot of singers compensate for bad vocals with too much music, but the music only complements her great voice.

So throw away the mass-produced Latin pop and try listening to something much stronger and more intense. Marta Sanchez's music is stuff to get chills to.
