About the Author

Judi Fennell, author of What a Woman Wants, has had her nose in a book and her head in some celestial realm all her life, including those early years when her mom would exhort her to “get outside!” instead of watching Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie on television. So she did—right into Dad’s hammock with her Nancy Drew books. These days she’s more likely to have her nose in her laptop and her head (and the rest of her) at a favorite writing spot, but she’s still reading either her latest manuscript or her friends’ books, or helping authors bring their books to readers with her formatting business. A PRISM and Golden Leaf Award winner, Judi is the author of lighthearted romantic comedies. She lives in suburban Philadelphia with her own menagerie—which might just include a few of the two-legged kind. Check out excerpts, deleted scenes, reviews, and contests, as well as the chance to dive into a whole new world, on her website.

He was giving her an out. It made sense to take it. After all, this wasn't some novel where the suburban housewife ended up with The Sexiest Man Alive and lived happily ever after. Not with five kids, the dog and the disaster zone. p. 90 Beth from What a Woman Needs

The above quote sums up this story exactly. No, a suburban housewife and a box office star shouldn't stand a chance, but that was the fun of reading this one because due to the machinations of a sister and a lost bet, Bryan Manley has entered Beth Hamilton's sphere and magic happens.

This was the second book in the Manley Maids series. I didn't read the first one, but had no trouble jumping into this one. This is mostly because the stories of the brothers taking on their housekeeping tasks all seem to happen at the same time. There's a bit of mingling, but this can definitely standalone.

The story opens with Bryan arriving on the doorstep of widowed Beth Hamiliton's doorstep. Ever since the death of her husband in the plane crash two years ago, things have been let go and out of control. Her five kids, the multiple pets and the house are a disaster which is why her friends bought her a month of housekeeping from Manley Maids. Never in her wildest imagination did she see her new hired help being the famous movie star that is the heart throb of every teen girl and woman out there. However it came about, he's there to do a job and she has to remember that even if it means ignoring the strong flare of attraction she feels just at the thought of him. A two year drought will do that for a woman.

Bryan is there to fulfill his end after losing the bet, but it doesn't take him long to see that he is really needed.

If you are hoping for a summary, my review isn't the one for you. I leave those to my kids...who wants to read spoilers anyway.

I loved this book, and it is my favorite Fennell book to date. Bryan and Beth are two of my favorite characters ever.

Beth is strong, but vulnerable, and so real. Judi captured the hectic life of a mom. With five kids. And a crazy dog. And coupled it with the fantasy of Mr. Dreamy stud actor who lost a bet to his sister and ends up being the hot mama widow's new Manley Maid. In skin tight stripper like pants. All buff and Hollywood, and a good hearted small town boy to boot.

Her kids steal the show at times, and be prepared to laugh at their antics, and cry at some very poignant parts. I never so much wanted a couple to make it work as Beth and Bryan.

This series is a bit different from Judi's earlier books where I laughed so hard I nearly...well, you all know the quote. Although still a lighter read, the "What a Woman" series has more substance. I really felt for these characters.

I was introduced to Judi Fennell's books at an Authors After Dark convention, and I fell in love with her Mer series. They were funny, light reads in a very Disneyesque and classic movie style. Then I moved on to her Genie series, and "Magic Gone Wild" had me laughing so hard I needed my inhaler to breathe.

Judi Fennell's sense of humor comes alive in her books, as does her love of classic movies. And yet "What a Woman Needs" was so much more than all of her other books. I cannot wait for the third installment. She did a great job in this one of balancing tears with laughter, and a whole lot of other emotions! I hope you give it a try...you won't want to put it down!

Fun but slow. It seemed to take no time at all for the h&h to want each other in a deeper way than lust, which i always hate reading. But then the author did develop their relationship b4 they said anything aloud. (Even though this was in such a short periods of time, she really did do a great job of making the characters learn about each other and their lives. But while the book takes place over a two week period, the pages seemed to take forever to get to the point. It was slow at points, long winded at others, and very predictable. That said, I didn't rate it lower bc the grammar wasn't bad (which lately in other books seems to be out of hand) and it was a nice fluffy read when you need it. Plus, who doesn't love a good star meets mom romance. Id say it falls somewhere between a 3&4

The romance between the two main characters unfolds at a leisurely pace as they slowly get to really know one another. It was refreshing to read about a man and a woman who treat each other with respect. Beth is shy of reporters, and Bryan, being a film star, is hounded by reporters; so there was definitely issues that interfered with a blossoming relationship. But I have to be honest and say that Beth's 5 children stole the show. I loved them.
