5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Laura is right...
As a married man of nine years and having read Dr. Laura's "Proper Care.." and others, I agree with her 100%. My wife operates a small business out of our home and is a very busy woman. She also is the primary care giver to both of our children. Dr. Laura's book helped me to realize that I took her for granted. Likewise, my wife found that she needed to be more...

3.0 out of 5 stars repetitive!
I loved the proper care and feedings of husbands, but this book, is a work book and a journal. I think it is very repetitive if you have read the first book, plus who has time to answer all of these silly questions. I think that because of the sucess of the proper care book that this book was just a quick money maker. Others with more time and others who may need more...

This book is a must for both men and women. Thank you, Dr. Laura, for strengthening our relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right-on, Again!, September 5, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Dr. Laura has hands-down followed up "Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" with a first class sequel. It takes guts and wisdom to take on the mutated women's movement. Dr. Laura clearly illustrates just exactly how women really do have much more power over their own lives and over men than the other way around. She demonstrates that it is how they realize and use their power which makes everyone around them miserable or happy - most of all themselves. This is truly THE MOST EQUALITY-BASED BOOK I've read to date. This is what the women's movement was meant to be.

We could have opened history books to learn the same from men or women who've misused power and ended up unhappy or destroyed. But since most never read or learn from history, most are doomed to repeat it, with too many women ending up making themselves miserable by following ancient historical follies promoted by the "modern" women's movement.

Bad advice is so commonly practiced: "Hatred, bad treatment, control, manipulation and abuse of men" is deserved and justified and "will not back fire" on women. Dr. laura illustrates how it works the other way around too, for jerky men. It not only takes someone with real wisdom to illustrate it all like Dr. Laura does so plainly, but someone who can also let-it-fly when the need arises, to protect so many women not only from commonly accepted lies but ultimately from the party most responsible - themselves. Most women I've talked to about this book (who've actually read it all) and it's companion book love them both, and Dr. Laura for writing them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice from a very wise woman, September 11, 2005
It may be hard for a lot of people to admit, but Dr. Laura Schlessinger has some very good & basic advice for managing relationships. Consider discarding your excess, pointless & misguided pride & anger & learn about the original, historic and very sensible approach to marriage. When women & men realize that they have completely different yet equally important roles to play in marriage, married life can become so much happier & fulfilling for both parties. Another excellent book by Dr. Schlessinger.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't waste my money., August 11, 2006
I have the Proper Care and Feeding of husbands and I enjoyed that book. Woman Power is full of blank pages for you to write your thoughts and ideas. I think it is a waste of time unless you just LOVE to journal. If you took the useful information and took out the blank pages the book is about 2 chapters. My advice is to put your money to better use at Victorias Secret. Your husband will get a lot more out of it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, October 24, 2004
This book really made sense to me. It has helped my marriage. I would recommend it to anyone married or not. I really started understanding how the male mind works. It was weird that it was a woman explaining it but I dont think I would have listened if it had been a man. This book was meant for people who have a somewhat healthy relationship. In saying that I mean I dont think this book is going to help someone with their husband if they are in a dangerous relationship where there isnt some level of respect for each other. But for alot of us it should help us to understand our husband or significant others better. Which in return will help us to respect each other and get along better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Influence!, May 21, 2008

The truth is we can influence others. The thing we need to realize is the difference between influencing and manipulation! Some men are just not worth our effort though! Ask yourself, is this worth fighting for and am I the only one fighting for it?

5.0 out of 5 stars An anomaly among pop psych books..., October 14, 2009
Dr. Laura does a good job explaining how men, not only woman, can have "self-respect," even in our culture where boys are not taught to respect their bodies, but sacrifice them. In America, where many women feel they've been "oppressed" by diamonds and demands, and now feel entitled to be treated as princesses without acting like princesses, here is an author who slashes through the overlooked double standards and puts everything on the table.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Dr. Laura hit, August 13, 2004
By
First of all, as a psychotherapist myself, I have to admit that a lot of Dr. Laura's advice is neatly packaged. Real life is more complicated and lasting change takes time and dedication.

Dr. Laura, for those of you who are STILL unaware, is a licensed marriage & family therapist in California. Yes, her Ph.D. is in physiology. But she received post-doctoral certification and licensing in family therapy from USC. Should she be calling herself a doctor on the radio? No... IF she is doing counseling. That would be misleading. But, her radio show isn't counseling. It's an advice show - not a shrink show.

Dr. Laura will be around a long time. Whether you agree with her or not, she is a formidable presence. Her advice is traditional, her audience devoted. Can she be harsh? Of course. But, you have to remember that talk radio is primarily entertainment. Otherwise, it's called NPR. I have to admire Laura for speaking her mind, espousing traditional family values, and most of all, being so devoted to protecting innocent children. She's a-okay in my book.

3.0 out of 5 stars your really don't need it, December 5, 2004
Woman Power is essentially a workbook to go along with Care & Feeding. It really can't stand alone. Without Care & Feeding it's worthless and to be honest you could do just as well by buying a 99 cent notebook and writing down your observations and admissions after reading Care & Feeding. The only way I'd recommend buying Woman Power is if your bookstore has a buy one get one free say. Care and Feeding is an important book. Woman Power is really just fluff.
