At last, Rhye's full length debut has arrived, and it doesn't disappoint. Sounding equal parts Sade, Dido, Zero 7 & Chet Baker, the duo of Mike Milosh & Robin Hannibal have delivered a sexy collection of soul for grown-ups.

This will be on many year-end "best of" lists, including mine.

PS: The singer is a dude.

What a great album. Falsetto is hard to pull off and not be annoying after 3 songs (IMO)... RHYE master it. The music perfectly matches the soft voice. Musically I can make the Sade comparison - but overall (musically & vocally), I can't help but think of Everything But the Girl. However, they ventured off into largely electronics towards the end... (Tracey has reined it back in with her solo work - somewhat) but RHYE recall a nice organic sound that I always wanted EBTG to maintain. Anyway - After a few listens, I'm LOVING this.

Standout track here for me is 3 Days. Not sure what's going on in the story although it sounds pretty grim. But damn, it's a GREAT song. The vocals are perfectly layered with each chorus...

These songs are very delicate but never weak. I like the 10 song offering because it leaves me wanting much more.

And coincidentally, both albums are produced by Robin Hannibal, who is quite possibly the best producer in the industry at the moment. If you don't believe me just google "Dirty Secrets" by Louie, or possibly "Løb Stop Stå" by Boom Clap Bachelors. If you like these songs you will love this album. Also, if you have not yet heard Quadron's album, do yourself a favor and purchase it immediately.

To put it simply, nobody is making music like this currently. NOBODY. This is actual music, not vapid synthetic fluff. If you want many successive eargasms I would suggest listening to Mr. Hannibal's music ASAP.

Brief album review: Great tunes, excellent arrangements (mostly sparse, but never empty or boring). A striking sound these two talented guys produce, and very consistently and effortlessly so.

Vinyl: Is Woman worth owning on vinyl? In a word - Yes. But, if you're an audiophile looking for a little bit more detail, read on.

The mids and highs are very strong on the vinyl version, and though the lows are certainly present and punchy, they are not quite as full as I'd hoped. Also, there is a noticeable amount of hissing on the "s" sounds, which definitely takes away from the atmospheric vibe of the songs. From where I'm sitting - this is a very well-produced album, and a 180-gram reissue would do this release better justice. (Maybe even white vinyl, too??) It certainly deserves even more than the standard vinyl treatment, in my opinion.

It seems to be pretty clear that the bit rate used to make these pressings is higher than 16 bit digital for the CD, and that in and of itself is worth the money. So, don't be afraid to choose the vinyl format for this great album. It sounds like a different album on vinyl (in a good way), and I highly recommend listening to it this way.

Way cool to hear Rhye as the background music in Newsroom (Jim's romantic hotel room setup for Hallie Aug 18, 2013.) As was said on NPR's All Songs... Rhye is "crushed velvet." My top find for 2013!

Woman is an album offering fans of Quadron, Jessie Ware, and other equaly soulful productions something to take a gander at. Richly produced, and velvety smooth, Woman is one of this year's most sensual albums. From the opener, aptly titled "Open", to the wooing and ethereal close "Woman," this album does not disappoint. Although many of the songs are similar in structure and sound, users will most definitely notice and appreciate minor nuances of pop, chillwave, and perhaps even rnb. Slathered in seduction, the lead singer's voice is the most standout and surprising element to this album indefinitely. Woman is as smooth as the woman's neck on the cover, and sensuous and saucy as that gracious curve.

I have "The Fall" on constant repeat when I'm in a dreamy mood. The melody and lyrics sound simple but are effective. Perfect seduction music. And brings to mind earlier decades with some of the instrumentation.

The entire CD is relaxing. You don't want to fast forward any songs. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys mellow music. I look forward to their next CD and hope they are able to gain more exposure. I stumbled upon their sound on Late nightTV programming.
