fantastically enjoyable romantic suspense thriller,
This review is from: Wild Woman (Silhouette Bombshell) (Mass Market Paperback)
Perseus chief Morgan Trayhorn and his assistant retired US Army Major Mike Houston make it clear to CIA Agent Mace Phillips he will work with a woman on his next assignment or he can go back to manning a desk. He reluctantly accepts the assignment which teams him up with CWO2 Jessica "Wild Woman" Merrill. They are to find the third totem as seen in a vision by Kai Alseoun. Canadian Robert "global coyote" Marston is believed to have the artifact hidden in either room 2 or 3 of his Hong King fortress.
Mace and Jessica pretend to be a married couple and owners of software giant Titan Industries. That gets them access to room 1, but it will be up to Jessica to breech the inner sanctum. However, she believes she has a second mission to see her sad looking partner smile; Mace still mourns the death of his wife from ovarian cancer. If she succeeds that should provide a cover stronger than anything else unless the duo takes it seriously, which could weaken their efforts against a dangerous octogenarian. WILD WOMAN is a fantastically enjoyable romantic suspense thriller with the emphasis on action starting from the moment that Mace meets the title character and never lets up until the final confrontation. The story line is action-packed, but as with its predecessors (see SISTER OF FORTUNE and DAUGHTER OF DESTINY), Native American mythos is infused into the plot. Fans will enjoy the efforts of the undercover agents while finding Marston fascinating in a negative way. Lindsay McKenna writes an exciting ending to the totem trilogy. Harriet Klausner

Dissapointed Reader,
By
This review is from: Wild Woman (Hardcover)
I am very dissapointed with this book. I have read all Morgan's Mercenaries series. Because of this I expect "Wild Woman's" story to be great. I thought I would finally see why was she called "Wild Woman". I didn't see her until the last chapters. If I hadn't read MM's series I would have loved it. But because I did, I am truly dissapointed.

Good ending to series- not great writing,

So I wrote reviews of the first two books in the "Sisters of the Ark" trilogy and this one had plenty of action, some mild mysticism and a go to it lead. The overall story was fine. Wrapped up the series and got things sorted out- we finally meet the person who is behind the thefts that set the three women off on their journeys.
My problems- again Lindsay McKenna has a limited sense of dialog. In this action thriller once again her clunky use of outdated ( ie mid-1980s) slang like DUDE used over and over made me cringe. The hero parnter Mace as this super hunky guy who Wild Woman is immediately attracted to did not work for me either. Yes he is wounded and all sad- has experienced loss- why can't he get his head in the game for the mission? If he is supposedly a trained CIA operative then he should not be letting his feelings come so close to the surface. There is a reason he was tucked away doing translations...... For better reads in this series try Connie Hall's A Rare Breed, or anything by Cindy Dees or Erica Orloff. |
