Editorial Reviews

'An astute, humorous and moving insight into the lives of women from Eve to the 21st century woman...An enormous amount of valuable research has gone into the writing of this book, including anecdotes of the lives of pioneering women, such as Gladys Aylwood and Mary Slessor, whose courage is earth-shattering and a profound lesson for us all. They prove that we can all have a voice and that a few can make a difference for many...I underlined pearls of wisdom on nearly every page!' -- Fiona Castle

From the Back Cover

What does it mean to be a woman today? What have women inherited from their radical, risk-taking sisters of the past? And how does God view this half of humanity? Michele Guinness invites us on an adventure of discovery, exploring the biblical texts, the annals of history and the experiences of women today in search of the challenges and achievements, failures and joys, of women throughout the ages.

This is a must read for every woman who has ever struggled with her 'role' whether perceived, implied or imposed. Michele Guiness writes with humour, sharing her own experiences, good and bad. Her knowledge and research make this more than just a bedtime read. It is excellent for students of sociology, women's studies, psychology, gender study and book club discussions. I wanted to underline sentences and pearls of wisdom on every page. A timely book at a time when focus (rightly so) is turning on the plight of women in developing countries. Not a book for the narrow-minded and bigoted who want to keep women in the kitchen, breeding, feeding and cleaning. It's a celebration of womanhood in all its facets complementing and coming alongside male-hood for the sake of Humankind. An enlightened and enlightening book.

Praise for The Heavenly Party

"Faith is a serious matter, but who says it has to be dull? Michele's ideas and ideals are captivating and her imagery inspiring. This book dances like fire on the imagination and kindles a warm glow on the heart. To read Michele Guinness is not so much to read as to see."
J John

"Irresistibly infectious, Michele not only writes about a joyful partying spirit but lives it and draws us into it too. This further rediscovery of our rich Jewish heritage should blow church cobwebs away and make us a people of sparkling joy as well as truth."
Os Guinness

Praise for Chosen

"Michele Guinness is ...refreshingly frank, irreverent, funny ..........Jewish humour is as real as English reserve. In this book the former is pitted against the latter."

Praise for Woman, the Full Story

"Important for Christians today, both women and men. Michele Guinness's writing is perceptive, informed and challenging - a blend of personal experience and biblical and sociological insights - full of wisdom and spiced with wit."
Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali

A terrific tour de force. It will get under your skin, challenge your assumptions, make you laugh at your silly prejudices and dare you to live equally alongside the wonder that is woman."
