Book Description

1979
Gloria Vanderbilt was born the child of wealthy aristocrats Reginald Vanderbilt and Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt. Her father died shortly after her birth; her mother, a striking young woman, became a member of the then international social set. In 1934 Mrs. Harry Payne Whitney, paternal aunt of her niece Gloria, instituted a widely publicized custody suit against Gloria's mother during which Mrs. Whitney was award custody of young Gloria. In 'Woman to Woman' Gloria writes about the unexpected catastrophy of this decision which resulted in the resulted in the removal of her beloved governess. The figure of this lost love haunted the child and then the woman, and greatly affected her art as her life.

Perhaps the best and most joyous thing Gloria Vanderbilt shares here is the example of herself...and the shared secret that in almost every woman there is a well of creativity waiting to be tapped, and that by developing often unsuspected talents a woman can create a more beautiful life. In these pages, Miss Vanderbilt reveals how she worked to achieve success as an actress, artists, and designer, and as a person.

Touching the past, the present, and the future 'Woman to Woman' is about one woman's life, and the business of living a life and bringing to it the greatest possible individual style.

This review is from: Woman to woman (Hardcover)
This book has a lot of text about Gloria's artistic ideas, but for the real ideas presented in this book, one has to dig deeper. By the time this book was written, Gloria Vanderbilt had overcome her difficult childhood, and has become a very strong woman of great substance. Here is a woman truely in touch with her soul, and who knows who she is. She emphasizes throughout the book that the root of all growth, beauty and wisdom comes from within, and true change can only come from one's thinking. Gloria Vanderbilt is an inspiration to me, and an example of the very best that a woman, a human being really, can aspire to be.
