The author presents several options for training situations and gives information on all stages of a dogs life. Very interesting and good information on various types of training and also has data on things like aromatherapy . . . well worth reading and a great gift for any woman thinking about adding a dog to her household.

This review is from: Woman's Best Friend : Choosing and Training the Dog That's Right for You (Paperback)
At last, a book written specifically for the person who has the closest contact and relationship with the household dog - the lady of the house. Over the years more and more women are becoming involved in training their family dogs. In fact I often wonder if it has ever been any different. The phrase "Man' Best Friend" seems somehow quite incorrect as in general, in my experience, the lady of the house is the one who takes the responsibility for the family dog. Women are also very instrumental in selecting the breed of dog, which is a very important part of gaining a well behaved and ideal companion. Too often I have found that the wrong breed and temperament has been selected for a specific home. This is where Babette's advice in "Woman's Best Friend" is invaluable in that it deals with the before and after of dog ownership and has a comprehensive guide on breed selection. Babette has left no stone unturned to help anyone considering dog ownership or, who already has one. She clearly explains how to choose and bring on a well mannered, polite member of the family. Her insight, experience and practical abilities as a trainer, a mother, wife and of course a woman have all been brought together to help women gain a wonderful family companion. As a respected member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, Babette, who has lived with, known and trained with dogs since the day she was born, has always been generous with her knowledge, experience and abilities. This has been reflected throughout "Woman's Best friend". Although it has been written for women, this is a book for all members of the family especially as it will explain to everyone how to interact with their dog in a consistent and understanding way. For true dog lovers, this book is a must. Follow it and there is no doubt that your family dog will become a "Woman and Man's Best friend." One you will love and be proud of. Read this book before acquiring a dog, September 23, 2003
This review is from: Woman's Best Friend : Choosing and Training the Dog That's Right for You (Paperback)
Yes,read this book before getting that pooch. I've been counseling people on pet problems for many years and find it is a lack of knowledge on the owner's part via acquired impractical dog info that does not work. This book has such a wealth of info. Info taken for granted by dog professionals, but much of it never revealed to the average pet owners. And yes it is the lady of the house who usually calls us crying "help". for there are issues specific to women, the man of the house does not have to face. Single, pregnant or Mom--This book leaves no stome unturned with it's guidance. Dog trainers, if you are reading this, order it for your female clients. It'll make your job easier, complement your training program (regardless of methology) and bring harmony into their households. Yours for a better trained dog, Bob Maida Westchester County, New York [...]
