Book Description

September 7, 2006
Internationally renowned meditation teacher Hari Kaur Khalsa knows well the whirlwind stresses and strains placed on women today. Through the secrets of ancient Kundalini chanting and meditation techniques, women will find peace amid all the chaos, develop their creativity, and hone their inner wisdom.

To introduce the newcomer to meditation, Hari Kaur helps the reader, step by step, to create a space in which to meditate, to become familiar and comfortable with different postures, to breathe deeply and effectively, and to clear the mind. Plainly organized into sections uniquely tailored to a woman's changing physical and emotional needs, Hari Kaur teaches how to:

- alleviate frustration, ward off moodiness, and become calm
- ease life transitions, accept change, and encourage personal creativity
- fully realize the potentials of pregnancy and motherhood; and much more

In addition, Hari Kaur discusses seven steps to achieve happiness and how to use meditation to build a spiritual identity. Her meditations are presented in the original Sikh as well as in English translation. And the easy-to-reference format will keep the reader returning again and again as she grows through meditation and in her daily life.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must-have book, September 25, 2006
This review is from: A Woman's Book of Meditation: Discovering the Power of a Peaceful Mind (Mass Market Paperback)
I've done yoga for the past ten years and love the more physical styles of yoga - ashtanga and other vinyasa based practices. This book is something completely different. The mediations seem to work from the inside out and are amazingly transformative. I can't imagine anyone doing even 11 minutes of any one of these meditations without noticing the effect. And 11 minutes isn't as easy as it sounds. Clearly the author has tremendous knowledge and she makes even the more complicated meditations easy to understand and perform at home. This is a book worth buying and using.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Good for the Brain!, July 12, 2007

I enjoyed this book. It is not only about meditation, but you learn a lot of yoga techniques. You learn the correct way to sit, breath, and hense you open the door to meditation. I thought the breathing techniques were great as physically you feel wonderful after learning how to breath correctly. Once you get the basics down, you are ready to do some serious meditation. It's fun and it helped me greatly.

I was nervous getting this book - I'm not really the "meditation" type person. But I was feeling stressed out as a working mom and felt I needed to try something, and this really was helpful. I have a hard time dedicating the time to use it, but when I do the effect is significant.
