5.0 out of 5 stars
Exquisite!, October 8, 2004
This review is from: Woman's Diary for 2005 (Hardcover)
This engagement calendar is everything I hoped for and MORE! I'll describe its format here, since at the time of this posting, no information is available at Amazon.com.
There is one painting per week. The paintings are generally 3-4 inches wide and 3-4 inches high, though they vary depending upon the dimensions of the original. Some are the artist's more muted in color/highly detailed works, some are her more brilliantly colored ones. All are beautifully reproduced.
Each painting is accompanied by a wonderful saying like: "No trumpets sound when the important decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known silently (Agnes de Mille)." Or from George Eliot: "I would not creep along the coast, but steer out in mid-sea, by guidance of the stars."
The paintings are located at the top of the left page. Beneath them is room to write (diary-style) responses to statements like: I enjoyed these blessings/triumphs; I faced these challenges/disappointments; this week I will; I will hope for/pray for/meditate upon. (I'll probably just use this space for additional notes or lists, but the space is there for those who wish to use this as a combination diary/engagement calendar.)
The right side consists of the standard 7 day engagement calendar format with a tiny calendar of the month.
The paper is beautiful and substantial, not your standard flimsy paper.
The ring binding consists of large rings, so it is easy to flip through it. Plus, there is a sturdy mostly transparent plastic cover to protect the cover of the engagement calendar.
In short, this is a beautifully designed and executed work that will brighten my year. My thanks to the publisher, and to the artist, wherever you are now.
