A definitive guide for women interested in buying a bicycle or taking up the sport of cycling.
Julie, known as Jules, is mother to a wonderful daughter Reesa, and is happily married to Jerome Tracy, who has three sons. She wrote Tripping with Gabrielle in 1989, then moved to Marin County, California where she started working bike shops and never looked back. Jules moved back East, then published her second book, A Woman's Guide to Bikes and Biking, in 1999. Her third book, A Woman's Bike Book, is a titilating tale of women having fun on their bikes. Highly recommended. Today, Jules is a member of the National Ski Patrol, and works for both Magic Mountain and Jiminy Peak. She also builds trails and rides backcountry with a local DEC ranger, and belongs to two local seach and rescue teams. She served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and actively lectures local teenage girls on the dangers of the road and how to provide self defense for yourself and your friends at all times.
During the spring, summer and fall, Jules gardens, bikes, kayaks, skateboards and climbs until the snow falls. When trapped inside the house, she writes about outdoor adventures, permaculture and animal rescue, builds and rides longboards, tunes the family stable of snowboards and skis, and continues to build and repair the family bikes, as well as those of all her friends. Jules is a chilled out mom, wife and farmer approaching 50 who is committed to living green and living clean. She welcomes your questions should you too decide to pursue this way of life.
Jules has personally experienced traveling down the homeless hitchhiker road and doesn't recommend it. She has fortunately lived in the the same home for the past 15 years, her longest time in one place. Tripping With Gabrielle is Jules' manifesto to the homeless, runaways, the disenchanted, the addicted, the helpless and the poor of the world.
She salutes you.
