A Woman's Guide to Heart Attack Recovery provides heart attack survivors with a multi-faceted approach to preventing subsequent heart attacks. First, you need to empower yourself, and the way to do that is to learn as much as you can about your heart, the heart attack treatments you may have undergone, and, if you've only recently had your heart attack, the key steps to recuperation. You also need to know what to do in an emergency in case you experience another heart attack. Many chapters in this book -- such as the ones on high blood pressure, diabetes, weight control, diet and exercise -- are filled with information on how to achieve these specific goals. A heart attack can be a life-affirming wake-up call and many women find their life afterward to be better than it was before. Many of you will find it to be the impetus you need to make changes towards living a healthier life. A Women's Guide to Heart Attack Recovery is devoted to helping you do just that.

A must read for all women!,
By Sheila Wolf, "Mama Gums" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Woman's Guide to Heart Attack Recovery: How to Survive, Thrive, and Protect Your Heart (Paperback)
As a dental hygienist, this book particularly interested me because of the current research linking heart attacks and periodontal (gum) diseases. This well-written, empowering book is filled with stories of survivors. It is inspiring and informative, and the sprinklings of humor make it highly readable. Although not personally a survivor, I am motivated to make some simple personal changes towards living a healthier lifestyle. I would recommend this to all women. I enjoyed it as much as "The Women's Heart Book" which I also devoured with enthusiasm.

This review is from: A Woman's Guide to Heart Attack Recovery: How to Survive, Thrive, and Protect Your Heart (Paperback)
I was looking for a book that would give me concrete, in-depth guidance about recovering from a heart attack and preventing a second one. Instead, this book is filled mostly with only general and very broad advice, most of which is common knowledge -- even among people who've never had a heart attack, much less those who have. It's also filled with descriptions of what happens when one is hospitalized for a heart attack -- which heart attack victims already know. While it may provide some kind of limp anchor for people who really know NOTHING about good health, it didn't provide me with any specific information that I didn't already have, and it did nothing to increase my understanding. There's nothing substantive here. Not recommended.
