Book Description

June 1997
Often mistaken as solely the "yoga of sex," Tantra Yoga is more accurately described as the "yoga of everything," in which the spiritual is united with every aspect of life. This book offers step-by-step instructions and illustrations to explain the practice and philosophy of Tantra Yoga — adapted to the specific physical, emotional, and spiritual concerns of women. The author explains differing methods of meditation and mantras, breathing and relaxation, yoga positions, visualization, and affirmations — demonstrating how a daily routine of meditation and yoga can bring focus and strength both physically and spiritually. More than a guide to fitness, A Woman's Guide to Tantra Yoga brilliantly adapts one of the most venerable Eastern practices to the demands of modern life.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A multi-disciplinary approach for an intelligent 90s woman who is seeking greater tranquillity, right relationships and health. McClure makes it easy to adopt the ancient wisdom and practices from the East by blending them with medical and social commentary from the West . In the section explaining yoga postures, readers will thank the author for many thoughtful details. For example, the illustrations depict an Everywoman in a sweatsuit rather than a wasp-waisted model with flowing locks. Especially interesting is her description of kaoshikii, an aerobic dance that can be done when other yoga postures may upset hormonal balance. And the chapter explaining how yoga affects the emotions as well as muscles, joints, and internal organs, makes you want to begin the postures immediately to gain the benefits. What sets the book apart, however, is McClure's discussion of the specific traditions of Tantra, the "yoga of everything" in which the spiritual is united with every aspect of life. Through numerous examples in parenting and socio-political choices, she translates principles like acceptance, honesty, and following God into terms 90s women can understand and emulate. Reading A Woman's Guide to Tantra Yoga feels like having a wise and compassionate teacher at your side. -- From Independent Publisher

This title also draws connections between health and spirituality, providing a practical guide filled with step-by-step instructions teaching the philosophy and practice of tantra yoga. Daily meditation and yoga can bring women renewed strength and vitality: chapters focus on different approaches to meditation, yoga positions, and visualizations. -- Midwest Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Learning to love the person within, July 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Woman's Guide to Tantra Yoga (Paperback)
Learning about Tantric Yoga is learning to love the person you are and caring for that sacred self. Vimala McClure takes you on that journey in this publication. This is material that can add depth and beauty to any woman's life weather they chose to follow the path of Tantra or not.

The varied chapters cover topics ranging from spiritual matters to a woman's physical health. Chapter 3 is an in depth coverage of the Psychospiritual Anatomy, discussing the Chakra system and the layers of the mind. There is a chapter on Physical Health that goes into the benefits of yoga postures, as well as a very good chapter on aspects of meditation and how to make it a positive and regular part of your life. The section on 'Tantra's Code of Ethics' not only helps to convey the moral ideals of this path but also goes into how to apply these morals in parenting, and sharing values with children. A short section on pregnancy is also included in the book.

An enjoyable book with contents tailored for the special needs of a woman, this is a guide to nurturing the spiritual self.
