This workbook was designed to be used in place of, not in addition to, the "Women of the Bible" book by Ann Spangler & Jean Syswerda. The "Women of the Bible" book contains five devotions for each week. This workbook contains the first three days devotional for each week (the exact same material that's in the "Women of the Bible" book).

I recieved this as a gift for my birthday, on new year's eve 2002, I actually decided to use it. I have read one a week, so I am almost finished. Easy to follow and read. Starts at the beginning of the bible and works its' way through. For each woman you are given the relevant passages in the Bible to read, a summary of her story with reflections and something for you to do in the next week.

I found it really helpful.

Our women's group have gone through quite a few studies and this material is absolutely the best we have come across. It has a wealth of useful information in the back and is designed to get a group to discuss and confirm that God's word is applicable in the lives of women today. We have seen remarkable growth in our class by both numbers and spiritually.

After personally using the companion devotional book last year, I recommended that our ladies' Sunday School class try this workbook in between other studies. Since each week focuses on a different woman, we can easily continue later with the following chapter. So far, the response has been excellent. The questions provoke personal comments from the whole group, although occassionally I find the queries to be oversimplified. The accompanying history and scriptures show that much study went into this book.

There is no "leader's guide" for reference, which encourages me to look at other resources as well. The section in the devotional book, which I really liked: "Her Sorrow & Her Joy" is not included in this workbook. The novelized version of each woman's story is also only in the devotional, which is fine, since we don't use that in our group.

I ordered this book for our Women's Bible study (we're called the Bible Babes!) and I will warn you - if you are thinking about ordering this book for the same purpose I HIGHLY recommend it but DO NOT recommend the workbook. I ordered the book and received the workbook instead by mistake and thought maybe I would keep it as a supplement to the book but after comparing the two they are identical. The only difference is that the workbook has LESS information, Bible readings & discussion questions than the book (why pay close to the same price for less?). I did like how the workbook had lines for your notes, but I am happy to keep a spiral if it means that I have more verses to read and questions to discuss. I HIGHLY recommend this book! (and do NOT recommend the workbook) Hope this avoids going through the trouble I went through. Enjoy it!! (By the way Amazon- I'm still waiting for a refund on the workbooks I returned...)

So last year I bought the devotional book and this year I had decided to order a few more copies for the girls in my Youth Group. I'm the Youth Leader at my church and we've had a great number of new female members (Young Adults Group 19-27years old). So I thought that a great way to get the girls more involved with the Word and comfortable with one another would be to start a Women of the Bible Study Group. So we meet every other week. The girls love the study and are very excited about what this journey together is going to bring. I recommend this book along with the devotional to anyone who is concidering it as an individual or group study.

Our women's bible study has used this book for the last two years to help us get to know the women of the bible. It is amazing how well you come to know the stories of the old testament through these stories. It is great to have these books to keep the class up to date however, I wish they had pulled a little more of the lessons of these women's lives into the study. We are doing that anyway, we just find them ourselves. All around we have enjoyed the book.

Syswerda's "Women of the Bible" is stronger on "what would you do if" and "what do you think her feelings were", and weaker on God's activity in the woman's life and solid Biblical lessons to be learned. A huge number of women are included, and if you sift through, some useful information and discussion starters are to be found. I would use it in conjunction with a more God-focused study guide.

This is a great book for my Sunday School class and also

small study groups. Time for study is not too lengthy

and discussion needs about 45 minutes.

WE ARE USING THIS IN MY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS, WE ALL THINK IT IS THE BEST STUDY WE HAVE DONE IN YEARS. THIS WILL LAST US FOR A WHOLE YEAR. THANK YOU
