4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable DVD to Keep for Every Woman.
This is a great DVD. The lessons learned provide you with skills that can act as insurance in case you need it. It basically shows you the Kicks and the Elbows training. However the Kicks are more difficult to learn. Many Kicks from the "Real Life Situations" are above the waist level which are hard to follow by beginners. The Elbow trainings are easier.

This review is from: Women Fight Back (DVD)
This starts out with some basic good stretching. Next, you see a woman demonstrating front, side & round kicks to a man wearing pads. There are about 2 different camera angles & she repeats the kicks many times on both sides. Michael Wong narrates only about 2 things. Mostly keep balance, don't kick as high at first, keep your guard up & an occasional, don't lock your joints. No additional or more detailed instruction is given. Next she does 2 diff elbow strikes many times again to a guy holding pads. Michael Wong says they teach women elbow since it's the strongest way to do upper body strikes & so won't hurt your wrists. There is also demonstrated knee in to the chest by grabbing the guy's shoulder first to push him down into the kick. Michael Wong mentions to make sure you use your hip to get more power. He repeated says to practice & use good, strong equipment.

Next shows a almost movie type real situation of the same woman gettting accosted & 3-5 elbow/kicks to get away. It is then demonstrated in the studio with a guy in pads. The combinations are great. Again, there is not enough instruction, but you get the idea enough, but I wish there was more detailed instruction instead of it just being demonstrated. There are about 6 diffrent situations/comintations that are repeatededly demonstrated. In one, the guy tries to take her cell phone out of her hand & how to break his wrist, but there almost no verbal cues, so you just had to watch & try to hopefuly get the idea of angle & how to hold the assailents hand. The moves & combos are GREAT, just wish more instruction.

There is about 6 or more basic punches & kickboxing combos demonstrated with a guy wearing pads again. Thre are no cues, just watch.

I love the combinations given, the demonstrations, the multi-angles, the real-life situations... But there should be MORE detailed teaching other then reminding you to keep your body & spine straight & keep balance.

The whole thing lasts about 55 min & there some additional bonus stuff like photo gallery, w weird animated movie & some trailers that aren't presented very well. The music is good though, moderate tempo with a great beat.

I would suggest this after doing Chuck Norri's Private Lesson basic martial arts DVD so you do not injure yourself.
