Generally, I don't much enjoy historical accounts of personal achievement. I find they don't leave you with much take-away.

I picked up Women Leaders at Work and approached it with reserved skepticism and three pages in I was hooked. Ms. Ghaffari poses some fabulous questions to each of women interviewed. She does a wonderful job teasing out how each woman mastered skills, navigated organizations, faced and embraced change, utilized mentors and contacts to best play upon their strengths. The interviews are awesome.

I especially appreciated her capturing each woman's challenges in the home/work life balance and their unflinching confidence in transitioning through change. Re-invention is a theme that runs through each of their lives, as is courage to take on assignments which on face value seemed outside the scope of their core compentencies.

Every women out there should read this book. The life lessons are inspirational and foster a perspective of confidence in one's own ablities. I guarantee the reader will never again suffer the dark clouds of self-doubt that can plague you along the journey.

Devour it. I did and will never look at my career decisions the same again. Well done, Ms. Ghaffari, and thank you for a wonderful book.
