Given that this book was written by a urologist (Jennifer) and a sex therapist (Laura), I thought it would be highly informative. I've read worse books, but this one was far from the best. My primary complaint is that its scope of coverage was too limited. Secondly, there were some shocking errors in it. Here's one: "Testosterone is also available over the counter in the form of DHEA ..." WRONG! I'm a doctor and an endocrinologist who feels that any "doctor" making such a statement needs to return to medical school! Here are the facts: (1) DHEA is one of the precursors to testosterone. (2) DHEA may or may not be converted into testosterone in the body. (3) DHEA may also be converted into estrogen, which can oppose the effects of testosterone. Therefore, it is inaccurate (and grossly misleading) to imply that DHEA is a form of testosterone.

I also didn't like the monotonous, too-detached tone of this book. Perhaps that's the way the Bermans attempted to project an air of professionalism, but rather than coming off as professional, the book just seemed to lack vibrance. Therefore, it wasn't enjoyable to read. Its insipid nature would have been tolerable if there weren't those glaring factual errors -- I apologize for harping about them, but such mistakes are (or should be) an embarrassment to the authors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disapointment, February 1, 2008
I had high hopes for this book but found it to be very disappointing. They tell you about the various women who come into their clinic with various problems without really getting to how to help yourself. It felt like a long advertisement for themselves and their clinic. I didn't find it to be helpful at all and somewhat repetitive. I would not recommend this book.

If it weren't for Drs. Jennifer and Laura Berman, their book and their fantastic show, I'm not sure what I would do. They have helped me soooo much in terms of my relationship, my sexual function, and my life. I owe them my hapiness!! I'm waiting anxiously for book number 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars It may not be "all in your head", February 23, 2002

Laura (South Georgia, United States) - See all my reviews
Jennifer and Laura Berman (a psychologist and a urologist) have compiled a resource essential for every woman with some type of sexual dissatisfaction. The old thought that a woman's sexual problem was "all in her head" is quickly dispelled, backed up by scientific research, anatomical evidence and specific suggestions. I am giving my copy to my gynecologist...he needs to know this information and apparently doesn't. This should be required reading for every physician and mental health professional. Very valuable!

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not help at all -do not bother with it, March 15, 2009
This book was of no assistance whatsoever. No new information presented that I didnt already know. Just a long advertisement for their clinic which is largely inacessible to people who do not live in the U.S

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't help me, May 10, 2002

My husband and I bought this book hoping it would address my problem (vaginismus). It was mentioned, but no helpful advice toward a solution was offered. There are a lot of women who suffer from this so it should be included in a "revolutionary" guide.

This is the most comprehensive informative book that I have ever read, and believe me, I've read them all. I've bought this book for my daughter, her friends, as well as my own friends and relatives. I also gave it to my doctor who refers to it regularly. The sister doctors are accessable by email and are soooo helpful and dedicated. I wish I lived in LA so I could visit and speak to them regularly. They now have a new show on Discovery Health called Berman and Berman, which I'm going to watch regularly. Keep up the good work. You go girls!!!
