Hurray! Evie Sands is back! I would really like to know when a CD will be available for her older Anyway That You Want Me album. I have tried for years to get it. My mom would have it playing, filling our home with her music when we came home from school. I have her original album, but have longed for a CD for quite some time. Is it available now? HELP!

3.0 out of 5 stars I wish Any Way That You Want Me Was Remastered on this CD
I have always been intrigued by Evie Sands. So much talent and a beautiful voice. I believe many more people would buy this CD is they only knew of her 60s talent and "almost" successes. Its a shame so much of her early stuff (Angel of the Morning) never hit the airways. You should consider remastering some of her early music -- Angel of the Morning, Any Way...

5.0 out of 5 stars the perfect world, May 25, 2007

In a perfect world Evie Sands would be standing with the greats

But this is not one and Brittany Spears became a star ( don't know if that is how you spell her name and don't care either )

Ms Sands has more talent in one note ,than some of the current crop of singers have in their whole song repertoire and hopefully soon will receive the stardom long over due

I discovered the music of Evie Sands in 1975 with the Lp ESTATE OF MIND.

I was thrilled to find out that it is NOW available on CD. I THEN discovered this 1999 release.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I could not believe how effortless ES plays, sings and writes 'the Blues'

--This album, which features Lucinda Williams on Cool Blues Story, is ANOTHER classic from the LEGENDARY Evie Sands.

She can SING and she can WRITE a song that will stay with you for days and days.

When I FIRST found WOMEN IN PRISON about 3 months ago (02/2006) I wanted to get some copies for gifts for friends and AMAZON didnt have any! I had to go overseas to get 8 copies.

I'm happy to see it back in stock here.

If you like the Blues and great songwriting this album will redefine both for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy hearing Evie Sands once again, March 31, 2003
This review is from: Women in Prison (Audio CD)
Back in 1969, I listened to Evie Sands album Any Way That You Want Me so much that I wore it out. Her rendition of Shadow of the Evening is so poignant. I liked her Until It is Time For You to Go much better than Buffy's version in the 60's.
After many years of tryimg to fimd her album AnyWay You Want Me, it was surprising to find it on Amazon.com. The price was steep but well worth it. Her voice is a crystal clear classic. I want more albums from her. I see from the discography that she has Two other albums. Suspended Animation (1979) and Estate of Mind (1974). Hopefully, they will become available on Amazon.com. Anyone know of these of albums?

What a delightful surprise to find Evie back in great voice after being away from recording for over 20 years. There are many strong tunes on this set to enjoy. Let's hope the uninitiated discover the quality of her music and buy this disc. Maybe she'll tour this summer. If you read this, Evie, please schedule a concert in the Knoxville, TN area.

(My wife's name is popping up as the author of this review. Uh oh I'm in trouble now!) Although I recently became a fan (I missed her earlier career, such as it was, entirely), my expectations for "Women in Prison" weren't all that high. I guess I assumed it would be depressing. All I'd heard of it was the Lucinda Williams bit, which doesn't do much for me, other that let me hear those dark velvet evie-tones. Okay, so now I've had it for almost a week. It's just about the best thing I've heard in years. It is so outrageously, drippingly, shamelessly SEXY in places - with a rich deep maturity that makes girl singers - even younger evie - seem like unripe peaches. I have NEVER heard such utterly convincing female sexuality in musical form, in fact nothing comes close. And if its borderline-explicit, it's still tasteful! The pairing of I want your hands / I hate you tou today is perfect. It helps me understand women at last - at least a little.

This is probably because evie understands herself. Here are a couple of further thoughts:

1. Her many years in exile from fame have done her a world of good. She's an evolved soul, and real human being. Look at the singers who did make it at the age when evie should have, who are now her age. Most are a mess, and their voices contain only accumulated fakeness. They're self-caricatures, trying to be what they used to be (with notable exceptions here and here).

2. I would wager that evie is still finding her voice, and by far the best is yet to come. I mean that. This is light-years ahead of her earlier stuff (I missed her 1979 album). And now that Women in Prison has failed to sell too, she's had yet another eight years to quietly evolve still further into maturity, wisdom, womanliness, and self-knowledge. When she finally hits her peak, maybe in the next year, the masses will finally sit up and take notice. Independent radio stations and internet word-of-keyboards will alert people to this amazing phenomenon.

This isn't to say that I like every song or even every run-through of the album when i let it become background noise. But when I do pay attention - wow

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, October 1, 1999

I'll admit, I was intrigued by the hard luck story of Evie Sands so I bought the CD. I wasn't disapointed. It's every bit as good as I'd heard. Better than Bonnie Raitt. Every song is a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars The album offers a great variety of different styles., May 20, 1999

I think the best songs are the first three songs. One of the best is the duet with Lucinda Williams, but unfortunately a bit too short. It's an album to listen to when you're relaxing in the evening.

The duet with Lucinda Williams is dynamite! It's good to hear Evie making her own music again. She is truly one of the greatest and most underappreciated pop/blues artists of our time. If there are any more Evie Sands fans out there, I'm desperate for a copy (vinyl) of "Sands of Time".
