Women and Sadness: A Sane Approach to Depression [Paperback]

M. Sara Rosenthal (Author), Some of My Best Friends (Introduction)

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

December 3, 1999
Twice as many women as men are diagnosed with depression, yet women often have trouble finding effective help. Author Sara Rosenthal cuts through the jumble of terms and advice to help readers assess their needs, the help they're getting and the help they could be getting.

Women and Sadness looks at the factors in women's lives that lead to the increased occurrence of depression as well as the unique difficulties women have in finding good therapy, and offers strategies to overcome those difficulties. Too often women's problems have been trivialized or dismissed by those whose job it is to help. Women and Sadness validates women's experiences, noting that depression is often a reasonable (and sane!) response to the situations many women find themselves in.

This is a comprehensive look at different types of depression and the wide variety of treatments available.
