Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This book is a bold, innovative examination of the factors behind the low representation of women in scientific disciplines and, more broadly, other competitive professional career tracks. A group of 25 women, from diverse backgrounds and representing a cross-section of points along the career continuum, provide a candid look at a scientific environment where women are routinely judged more by stereotype than ability and travel the road to success in isolation. The book provides strategies for negotiating through gender-specific boundaries and showcases two programs designed to support women in establishing successful scientific careers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Insights, November 16, 2003
By A Customer
Some impressive insights in this book. Particularly interesting are those of the undergraduate experiences of women in technical institutions, including young woman in male-dominated environment. I also think this book gives good insights to men in the scientific professions-- ie. how to keep the environment conducive to women and men alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written and extremely engaging book!, November 4, 1998
By A Customer
I strongly recommend this book! As the father of a young daughter, this well-written book was a real eye-opener. Pattatucci has a smooth writing style that makes it seem as if she is discussing the issues with you at your kitchen table over a cup of coffee. If you are a parent that is concerned about the education and future of your children, particularly your daughter(s), you should buy this book. It will show you what's on the horizon if you do nothing.
