I picked up this book over ten years ago. It really helped me to change the lens with which I view myself. Today I recomend it to the clients I work with. I find that it helps women deal with issues of self esteem in simple yet effective manner. It has excercises that are easy to do and have great results in changing how women view themselves. I highly recomend this for any women struggling with issues of depression, anxiety and or self esteem.

This is a succint and comprehensive guide to understanding how self-esteem is developed and how it can be enhanced. The authors examine the impact of developmental, cultural and religious attitudes and of media influences on a woman's ability to accept and appreciate herself. They also offer specific, practical advice on how to address the various difficulties that arise as a result of low self-esteem. This is a valuable book, thoughtful and well-researched.

This book helped me fight for my self-esteem, and as another reviewer said, it's impact lasts years. It's the book I recommend to my friends struggling, like I did, for their self-esteem

This audio book really helps women understand themselves. The author explains how the little voice inside your head so to speak formed and how the internal dialogue shapes how you view the world and how you are seem by others.

This is the 4th copy of this book that I have purchased and passed on to a friend that it has helped. The only requirement is to buy one for someone else if you know someone who needs it. I would definitely recommend buying from Amazon it's just so easy and convenient. I was happy with how promptly the book arrived.

Format: Paperback
I have used Women and Self-Esteem for over 15 years with numerous psychotherapy clients, in group work, and the authors' 5 Core Elements of Self-Esteem as critical information for training therapists to know and learn. The chapter review questions for individual assessment are well done. The second half of the book gives the reader numerous scenarios that women experience in life that challenge their self-worth. Admittedly the book does have some areas of male-blaming, but the context of the publication of this book was working with women wounded by a patriarchal society and stereotypical inappropriate expectations of women. I still use it in 2012.
