I picked up this book over ten years ago. It really helped me to change the lens with which I view myself. Today I recomend it to the clients I work with. I find that it helps women deal with issues of self esteem in simple yet effective manner. It has excercises that are easy to do and have great results in changing how women view themselves. I highly recomend this for any women struggling with issues of depression, anxiety and or self esteem.

An excellent guide to improving self-esteem for women.,

This review is from: Women and Self-Esteem: Understanding and Improving the Way We Think and Feel About Ourselves (Paperback)
This is a succint and comprehensive guide to understanding how self-esteem is developed and how it can be enhanced. The authors examine the impact of developmental, cultural and religious attitudes and of media influences on a woman's ability to accept and appreciate herself. They also offer specific, practical advice on how to address the various difficulties that arise as a result of low self-esteem. This is a valuable book, thoughtful and well-researched.

Women and Self-Esteem: Understanding and Improving the Way We Think and Feel About Ourselves,
This review is from: Women and Self-Esteem: Understanding and Improving the Way We Think and Feel About Ourselves (Paperback)
This book is amazing and incredibly helpful and insightful. Not sure why anyone would call this man-bashing or "overly-feminist." The two are mutually exclusive according the dictionary and to the modern academic world. Hands-down this was a great book, feminism and all.

I listened to the 3 CD version. The information is well researched and presented in somewhat of an academic manner. A person would need a certain level of education and vocabulary to understand them because they use words like "dialectic", so if you are recommending them to someone they need to have the ability to understand the content and not be intimidated by it. I do like how the points are explained with actual examples in a different voice from the narrator. Very thorough and well researched, I believe these CD's can help raise a woman's self-esteem and would be ideal for a women's studies group or workshop. Power Path to Love

Although I enjoyed the majority of the book, I was quite annoyed with the constant blaming of "male dominated" society and culture. Although it is true that society and culture plays a role in a woman's self-esteem, I found that the authors spent too much time blaming men for women's problems. I am a little disappointed in the book!
Good book...but it could do without the heavy amount of feminism. |
