Excellent album of female singers!,
By Preston (nc) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women & Songs (Audio CD)
I think that this was a great idea to put the hottest female singers, from the popular to the underrated, on one album! And they succeeded. There is a power ballad rock driven dominance on most of the album, but a few uptempo numbers, like Cher's fun dance number Believe to change it up a bit. I like the ones with Cher, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Merchant, Heather Headley and others. The album does focus more on women's themes in terms of the lyrics, but the feelings are more universal. Truly entertaining musically.

A good mix of just the right voices,
By Isabella Valentine - www.IsabellaValentine.com (Bloomington, IN) - See all my reviews

This cd is music to your ears, wonderful selection of female artists - well chosen, I recognized 17 out of 19 names and knew most of the songs and the ones chosen really capture the mood of the cd.
Most of the songs, as a whole, are slow, sometimes sad (Un-Break My Heart, I Can't Make You Love Me, Cry, Beautiful, Adia, etc.) but there are other songs that are played at just the right moment like Cher's "Believe" and Nelly's "I'm Like a Bird" which are more upbeat and uplifting. The vocal stylings of all these very different women is so poignant and passionate, you can't help but have a deep appreciate for the music. This is one cd I can play all the way through without skipping songs. If I had to pick a personal favorite, I'd have to say Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" which features popular pianist Bruce Hornsby (they didn't credit him on cd - I guess to stay with the female theme, but it's definitely him on piano. I can hear his piano playing a mile away.) This is one of those cds that's fun to sing along with when you're all by yourself and no one's watching. I can't tell you how many times I put a hairbrush to my mouth while pretending to be Leann Rimes singing "How Do I Live" *smiles* it really is a good cd Isabella

Beautiful,

This cd is awesome! I can't believe the person before me said they didn't like Christina Aguilera! She's the best one on the cd. Christina is so talented. She shines on this cd. My three favorite (female) singers are all on this album (Christina, Nelly, & Jewel). You will love this mix of different genres and artists. The only song I would remove from the disc is Believe by Cher. Other than that, this cd is amazing!

Very Good!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Women & Songs (Audio CD)
It's all great! The only change I would make is that they should have used Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent" instead of "Low." That song is better, it was a bigger hit, and it fits better with this CD's theme. Other than that, if you love girl power, this is for you!

A Good Collection Of Some Great Female Singers,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Women & Songs (Audio CD)
I am a very big fan of pop/rock female singers. This compilation sure brings together some of 2004's biggest females. All the songs are well chosen for a classical sounding CD with some heart-filled ballads and some melodic rockers as well.
Beautiful: I'm not a big fan of Christina but this song changed my view of this dance/pop singer. Intuition: Jewel is truly one of the most amazing singers in the world. This isn't my favorte. 2 Become 1 would fit better. I'm Like A Bird: This is Nelly's best song and one of my favorites on here. It's well-written and upbeat. Are You Happy Now?: I LOVE Michelle Branch. This is her best hard core break up song. It's really rockin'. Thank You: This is a beautiful ballad and I never get tired of it. Overall, this is great and worth the money.

Great C.D. Full Of Truly Talented Women!,
By Rocky "Raquel" (Iowa, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women & Songs (Audio CD)
Although I feel they could have put a few more other female singers on here, for there are so many other women greatly talented as well, this c.d. does pluck out from the category a few true gems that shine in today's world of music.
1) Christina Aguilera- Beautiful (4/5) Good- sounding song, the lyrics are great but I personally don't like Aguilera too much. She sings these female- empowered songs and then at times is not exactly the best role model for women. Makes no sense to me. 2) Faith Hill- Cry (5/5) I consider this the best Faith Hill song and I know many will disagree, but I know many others will agree. This song is strong and very moving. I love it. 3) Jewel- Intuition (4/5) Well many hate Jewel these days because of this new sound of hers, especially her original fans that were there for her when she merely sung with her guitar. Yet I guess she likes herself in this pop/ dance mode now and she doesn't really sound too bad either way. She has better songs than Intuition though, such as Standing Still, which should have been the song they put on here instead of this one. Still an enjoyable song nonetheless. 4) Nelly Furtado- I'm Like A Bird (5/5) Amazing song, the lyrics I can very much relate to. Nelly isn't very much spoken of anymore, I assume her other c.d. didn't sell too well, or maybe she herself is plagued with the one hit wonder spell, and Like A Bird was just too big for any of her other songs to top. I don't know, but this is indeed a great song. I've always loved it. 5) Kelly Clarkson- Low (5/5) One of Kelly's best songs, very catchy and her vocals are shown strongly in this song. Being the first American Idol she had definitely needed to prove herself on her first album and she did, including this smoking hit. Her second c.d. that I own holds a lot of songs that sound like this one, and so her second c.d. can sound a tad dull at times, but has a few smoking hits as well. 6) Alicia Keys- A Woman's Worth (1/5) I can understand why they placed Keys on here, for she is widely praised, but honestly I never liked Key's music. There are so many other women behind a piano that I believe produce better songs. I think mainly though I just am turned off by her sound, I don't like it too much at all. And her lyrics are a tad cliche. But I know a bunch of others will love her on here, just not me. Personally, if it was my choice, I would have put Vanessa Carlton in the number six slot instead- to me, Vanessa Carlton is an amazing pianist and vocalist. 7) Dido- Thank You (4/5) Great song, but not Dido's best. I love how she has a different sound and I have both of her albums so I know that she has a lot more powerful songs. Yet Dido is a smart choice to have on here for she is one of the best female vocalists out there. Michelle Branch- Are You Happy Now? (5/5) Yes I am happy now with this song! Lol. Michelle Branch has always been one of those female musicians that turned your head. Plainly at first called a girl with a guitar, she proved she is talented beyond her years, producing hit after hit, including this one from her second c.d. I heard she is no longer going solo anymore though, but will be singing with another woman. That's a shame, but who knows maybe it will be a good combination. This is a good rememberance though of the power Michelle held in her solo years. 9) Alanis Morisette- Thank U (10/5) What I consider the best song on here and the real reason I bought this c.d. in the first place. Alanis has been a true mark on the musical world for women, and has inspired so many women to belt out their frustration to the audiences, and I couldn't be more of a fan her than I am. This is one of Alanis' best songs ever. Everyone loves Alanis angry, and now she has made an album where she has calmed down a tad, so now she is no longer under the spotlight too much, but I say she still sounds great. Great choice for this c.d. is this song definitely. 10) Sarah Mclachlan- Adia (4/5) I am not a major fan of Sarah Mclachlan, I just never got into her too much, but Adia is a very plesant song to hear from her. She is obviously talented, and that is why she has such a strong cult following. I think this was a good choice to have on here. 11) LeAnn Rimes- How Do I Live (4/5) A good song as well. I used to love hearing this song, the lyrics are sweet, almost to the point of sickeningly though. LeAnn though is another talented female artist and this is a widely popular song. 12)Cher- Believe (5/5) I've always loved Cher's Believe song. It's probably more of the sound in the song but it's very catchy and upbeat. Cher has been around a long time but she deserves recognition, she worked probably as hard as any other female singer to get her title over the years. 13) Lisa Marie Presley- Lights Out (1/5) Another female singer that I assume has a strong cult following but to me is not the best female singer out there. I can think of a few other female singers that could have filled her position I feel that are a lot better for the position, but it's not my choice. I never liked Lisa's music too much, nor this song. 14) Bonnie Raitt- I Can't Make You Love Me (3/5) Eh...not too bad of a song, kind of nice, but nothing powerful. LeAnn Rimes has a better ballad on here. I don't know too much of Bonnie for her style of music is usually not on my radio stations, but this song isn't too bad, not very memorable though. 15) Cherie- I'm Ready (4/5) Very upbeat song by Cherie, a girl once dubbed a young Celine Dion. Although I don't exactly agree with that, Cherie does have some vocals on her worth recognition. Instead of this song though I think they should have put Older Than My Years on here, a song that shows more strongly Cherie's vocals. But still a nice song to hear. 16) Natalie Merchant- Kind and Gernerous (5/5) You know I remember hearing this song a long while ago and hardly paid attention to it, although I did find it catchy. Now I hear it on this c.d. and I just love it and can't believe I didn't love it sooner. I've known of Natalie for awhile but didn't give her chance. After hearing this song though, I am going to check out more of her stuff for she sounds like a very talented woman and her voice is like Dido's, different, but actually a breath of fresh air to the music world. I am glad they put this song on here great choice. 17) Rachael Yamagata- Under My Skin (4/5) Rachael I just started to know with her single Worn Me Down, and that was a catchy song, and another reason I bought this c.d. was to hear another one of her songs. This song did get under my skin, for it is indeed catchy, in ways even more catchy than Worn Me Down. I'm glad they put this one on the c.d. too. 18) Heather Headley- I Wish I Wasn't (1/5) This song sounds a lot like a bunch of other songs I hear on the radio everyday so no I don't like it. And the female's voice is nothing to specialize, it's an average voice. This whole song is a dime a dozen. I could think of so many others songs to have put on here instead of this one. Toni Braxton- Un- Break My Heart (4/5) I've always loved this song, this woman's voice is a lot more stronger and worth hearing. Toni Braxton is a woman singer worth recognition, and this song too is very popular and very moving. Good choice.

This CD is loaded with popular songs from the 1990's and 2000's. I liked all of the songs. The artists are all ones anyone who listens to pop would be familiar with. They include Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, and Jewel.
