It's about time!,
By Aspen Princess (Aspen, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women Who Run (Paperback)
It's about time someone wrote a book that focused exclusively on women runners. Their stories aren't just about running, but about what is possible with determination, drive, focus, and commitment. Sit long enough to read this book because after reading it nothing will stop you from wanting to go out for a run.

Older Men Who Walk,
By Charlie Brandt "Charlie Brandt" (Delaware) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women Who Run (Paperback)
I'm not a woman and I don't run. I'm 64 and recovering from a recent cancer procedure. This extremely well-written and thoroughly engaging book has inspired my wife and me to double our walking effort. Not to mention how much fun it was to read.

If this won't get you off the couch, nothing will!,
By Jes R. (Long Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women Who Run (Paperback)
This collection of profiles is inspirational enough to get even the laziest of couch potatoes off their butts and out on the running trails. I loved the range of runners profiled, from hardcore ultramarathoners to everyday women balancing career and family. Women Who Run has a little something for everyone. I dare you to read a chapter and not want to throw on your sneakers and go for a run afterward!

Not real inspiring for the female fitness enthusiast,

This review is from: Women Who Run (Paperback)
Can't really say I found much motivation from this book. It was sort of an overview of female runners and their careers, not feedback from them as to what goes on in their hearts and minds to make them excel and succeed. It's probably worth a quick read for most, but I wouldn't expect a life-changing work to get you running or help you to new heights if you already do. Actual training tactics weren't covered much either.

Some inspiring stories, but not the greatest writing,
By Sui Solitaire (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Women Who Run (Paperback)
From the rave reviews of others, I expected this book to be incredibly inspiring... and it fell short of the mark. While some of the stories were pretty interesting, none of them were particularly inspiring, and the fact that the entire book was written in mostly third person detracted from the experience. I expected first-person essays from women writers, or at least interviews (since the preface alluded to that) but it read like mini-biographies about the runners, not really getting into personal, open (and thus moving) detail. Sosienski's writing also leaves something to be desired. I was more inspired reading The Complete Book of Running for Women, which isn't even really a book written just to inspire, as this one seemed to have been.

Motivating book,

This is a great book that I'd recommend to anyone, not just women. I had trouble putting it down and have since gone online to read more about some of the strong, wonderful women featured in this book.

Women Who Run,

What a great, lively read, especially as we enter the summer months and want to spend more time exercising outside! I found Shanti's book to be engaging, informative and inspiring. I gave up running a couple of years ago, and this book has reminded me why I should take it up again.

So Inspiring!!,

Thank you for such an inspiring read! I did read this book a couple of years ago when it came out but wanted to take the time for a quick note to anyone who may be thinking about buying. I picked it up again off my bookshelf a few days ago because I needed a little kick in the pants to get back into a running habit. Women who Run is a very inspirational and well written book, just be sure to have your running shoes ready because you will want to get off the couch and hit the trail as soon as you are finished!

A Truly Feel Good Read!,
By MelloLady (Baltimore, MD USA) - See all my reviews

You will feel wonderfully inspired by the women profiled in this beautiful, little book. It is a book for everyone that will provide lessons that go well beyond running. I initially checked it out of the library, but am purchasing a copy for a friend.
