Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

"When women in sports achieve a victory it's a celebration for everyone," observes Lessa in her introductory essay to Women Who Win. Gathering 22 superb women athletes from a wide spectrum of arenas, the roster includes Tara Lipinksi (figure skating), Teresa Edwards (basketball), Julie Foudy (soccer), Missy Giove (mountain biking), Julie Krone (horse racing), Lisa Fernandez (softball), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (track and field), and Picabo Street (skiing). Lessa allows these woman champions room to tell their own stories in their own words: who they are, what they've faced, how they've overcome, and what motivates them. All speak eloquently about what it means to be a woman in what remains at the highest levels a traditionally male playpen. The words are stirring, and so are the stunning photographs that accompany them in this big-format presentation. --Jeff Silverman

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing., December 23, 1998

A wonder full book for all ages. Inspiring photos of Aimme Mullins, whos legs were amputated at a young age, Teresa Edwards and more, make you want to read on this wonderfully illustrated book. Ms.Lessa captures the true nature of these women. You ususally don't see Tara Lipinski up close, not skating on the ice; but Ms. Lessa made sure her photos were unique. I am 12 years old and I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, the way the author portays the lives of these women is 'fabu' BOTTOM LINE: This book is excellent- A MUST HAVE FOR ASPIRING ATHLETES! :)

"Women who Win" is a great book and very inspirational! It teaches, esspecially young athletes, the importance of perseverance. The athletes tell of their hardships and how they became sucessful which is very motivational. It really taught me about the importance of perseverance and how much of a role model one must be.
