Fascinating study about the lives of working women in the Lowell mills from the development of the weaving mills in the early 1820's through the 1860's. Loved the statistical analyses provided in the book. More of a reference work than a recital of daily life, although the section on boarding house life was enlightening. Highly recommended.

While this book was extremely informative about the changing textile industry in the mid-nineteenth century, I would not recommend it to anyone looking for interesting reading. Dublin was very precise in his statistical information regarding the make-up of the industry and those involved and was clearly well informed on the topic. So overall, I would recommend it to textile fanatics, only they would find the book entertaining.
