I had been looking at the "other" brands shape-up shoe & trying to decide if I wanted to spend that much $ on it. I went to a local store that carried both brands & tried them both on. The AVIA felt & looked better, and with a store coupon, was almost 1/2 the price of the other brand. These are very light-weight, too. As soon as I got back to my car, I put these shoes on. At my next stop, while walking from my car to the store, I immediately felt my calf muscles stretching. I wear them everyday.

I must admit, I was a skeptic when I first heard about these--toning while you're walking, don't all shoes do that? Isn't that part of the purpose of walking?
As a 25+mile a week runner, my skeptism grew, however, after recently recovering from a broken ankle, I was desperate to make the most of my doctor-perscribed short workouts, so I went on a limb and tried these. After a week of daily use (45 minutes tops), I could not only feel the difference but SAW the difference. My female co-workers kept commenting on how shapely my legs were looking and were asking which workout class I was going too.
It's been almost two months now and I'll tell you what: my thighs are slimmer, stronger and have some really nice muscle definition! As a distance runner I occasionally have knee or hip pain, however, walking in these--no pain whatsoever, in fact, I would argue that walking in these a few days a week has helped lessen the pain in my knees and hips.
Now I haven't tried the Sketchers or the Ryka versions of these Toning Shoes, but I would swear by these!
Two things to note:
The first time or two that you wear these, just know that they are a little different to walk in, not difficult just different
These are meant to walk in, jogging/running is awkward and somewhat uncomfortable; as they are not meant for running, I'm completely at peace with this!
They also come with a little computer DVD.

I went to a local store here and tried these on then the sketcher shape ups. I did not like the shape ups, they felt too snug and felt like they ran small in size. Not to mention the sketchers are ugly compared to the avia avi motions. The avia are roomy and true to size and felt better on my feet.Plus they look like a normal shoe. Plus big savings for the same benefits. You cant go wrong with these. I wear mine all the time especially when i walk our dog for about 2 to 3 miles every other day.

I bought this shoe to work out in and walk. It takes a few minutes to become accustomed to the sole and the rocking, but it is a fast adjustment. I usually work out about 45 minutes and walk about 30 minutes at a time. At the end of the walk, I can't wait to take these shoes off. My feet are achy and tired. I don't know how some reviewers were able to wear them all day. I'll keep trying them, but I switch back and forth to my regular nikes to give my feet a break. I don't notice a big difference in "the burn" when wearing them either, but I may be too distracted by my feet hurting! I bought my usual size too. I don't think I would spend the extra money again for this style.

I have been having problems with heel spurs so I decided to look at the sketcher shape-ups. They felt great but then my attention turned to the Avia Avi Motion Toning shoe. They felt even better and kept the weight off of my heel. Between wearing the AVIA's and my Dansko's my foot is feeling a whole lot better.
After showing them to a friend at work who was also suffering with heel spurs she ran out and bought a pair. She loves them. Did I mention that the price is about $20 dollars less than the Sketchers???? It's a no brainer buy the Avia's.

I am a fan of Avia shoes in general and have worn them for several years. I tried on a pair of these shoes and they felt terrific as Avias usually do for me. They take some getting used as it feels like there is a tennis ball under the balls of your feet at first. I wore them a little bit on the first few days and the first few stints on the treadmill with them on were short. I felt a bit sore the first few days, and that is good, I know they are working.

The first thing I noticed was that my posture was immediately improved with these shoes on. I have had them a few weeks now and I do like them, yes they do contribute to my work out, they are comfortable to wear and my posture is improved. Excellent shoes.

I was in a car accident about 10 years ago and suffer from chronic neck, back and foot pain. I have hesitated to get the sketchers because of the price. I recently started an excercise program and as I have been getting into shape and feeling better I decided to try a pair of the shape ups. When I went to the store I saw the avia and they were half the price of the shape ups so I tried both on. I liked the feel of the avia much better so I bought a pair to see how they would do. I wore them all day then took a day break because my feet hurt and wore them to school the third day (I teach, so you know I am on my feet most of the day). By noon my right foot, the most damaged from my accident, was killing me! I stood up to take my kids to lunch and my foot popped right at my arch so loud one of my students asked if I was ok. It felt like a chiropractic adjustment and the pain slowly started to fade. The next day I wore flat shoes and as I got out of my car to walk in to work my foot popped right behind my big toe at the ball of my foot. Again, it felt like an intense chiropractic adjustment. A couple of days later my feet felt great and I haven't had foot pain (remember it has been chronic pain for 10 years in my feet) since. I wear the avia motion shoes at least 3 days a week and I love them. I do not recommend wearing them for more than an hour or two the first day and gradually move into them. My back feels so much better as does my neck since I have been wearing them. I would recommend them to any one with foot or back problems!!! I love mine.

They are true to size and are very comfortable. I walk 2-3 miles a day in these and they felt great the first day I wore them. The only thing was the shoe laces come undone even when I double knot them. Not a big deal though, just need to tie a little tighter. Not sure if they are working my buns and thighs yet but I have only worn them about six times. Plus, I do work out on a rebounder and do some intense yoga as well. When I am walking in them I do notice an improvement in my posture and that is important as that is good for my core and balance. Lighter and cheaper than Shape-Ups. I think these shoes are great but if you are looking to lose a lot of weight and tone up really fast don't expect these shoes alone will do it.

I purchased these sneakers to see if they would provide any new relief for my arthritic knees. I have already had one knee replaced and thought I was well on my way to another. Instead, I have found that after wearing them for about a week I can climb stairs more easily and walk almost painlessly. I can't figure out what the difference is, but I am going to order another pair ASAP and enjoy the results. Also, I like fact that there seems to be a little more width in the toe area, which just adds to the comfort.

I bought these shoes in mid July after trying on "the other brand". They were comfortable, lighter in weight, and just the right $$. I started wearing them for outside walking immediately, doing no more than an hour each time. Felt great, no problems, liked the fact that I could feel the backs of my thighs working, etc. However, mid August I tweeked my left knee, and I don't know what I did. I'm still wearing the shoes, but my knees (yes, both now) are hurting. Is it the shoes, or is it something else? I am a Dansko wearer, and the motion of the Avia is not that different. I have walked all my life, and this knee thing is just about killing me. I have only read positive reviews of the Avia 9995. Am I the only doubter? Do I toss the shoes and go back to regular gym shoes? Does anybody out there have advise for me. Thanks, Maggie
