"I have used your book in our young married couple's class. I know you don't claim this is the final or complete answer to all questions, but, as I have told some, this is the best explanation I have seen. I will hold this view until a better one comes along." -- minister Arkansas
"Many thanks for the paperback, Women's Adornment. I have been lending it out to interested Bible students.... It is most interesting and enlightening. My friends are delighted." -- -- minister/author England
While such questions have not been major issues in most churches, yet a significant number of people do consider these things as being of utmost importance. Others, though not directly involved in the controversy, are indirectly involved because of friends or relatives who are. All in all, there are multiplied thousands who have been confronted in one way or another with these questions.
Having had the opportunity to speak for several hundred different churches and groups in various places-in a ministry now spanning four decades-I have met people with varied beliefs and religious backgrounds. I have met men who will not wear a tie clasp, wristwatch, wedding band, or shirt with short sleeves. I have met women who feel they must always wear some form of head covering when attending worship services or offering a prayer. I know women who have been told they would "go to hell" if they were to cut their hair or wear any makeup. Some wear only dull colored clothing. They would not think of wearing slacks, a ring, or earrings!
It is not easy to disagree with very fine and sincere people who hold such beliefs, especially when they feel these beliefs constitute a standard of holiness and spirituality. Nevertheless, in all good conscience it will be necessary for me to disagree with the strict and unfruitful extremism to which some have gone.
As Christians, we believe in a life of holiness. But "true holiness" (cf. Eph. 4:24) can never be that false holiness which consists merely in a set of rules-rules based on man-made traditions.

Excellent Book! I highly recommend it!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Women's Adornment : What Does the Bible Really SAY? (Paperback)
My mother recommended that I read Women's Adornment. Wow! My parents were both raised in a very strict religous environment. It is very hard to know if dresses, jewelry, etc. is right or wrong. When you are raised that you cannot do or wear certain things or it is sin...what a heavy load to carry.Thank goodness Ralph Woodrow and his wife looked deep into the bible (not just looking at one verse but looking what is around the verse) and sheds light on the context of what the bible meant. I was not raised in such a strict atmosphere but have always had questions about why women have to look so different and men can look like everybody else. I am buying a number of copies of this book to give to friends and family who are also perplexed about these issues. It was so freeing to read the answers in this book! If you are struggling with the same questions....please get a copy of this book. I guarantee you will cherish it!
