Amy Dixon kicks my booty!!,

This review is from: Women's Health: Perfect Body Workout (DVD)
Oh my gosh! After I tried the other Women's Health dvd's with Amy Dixon as the trainer, (Ultimate Fat Burn & Total Workout in 10), I could not wait for the release of this dvd. The wait was worth it! I don't recommend this video for beginners as it is pretty fast paced and hard core. Amy does a fantastic job of informing the viewer of what the next step will be and giving instructions on the correct form. There is a person there doing modifications also. There is cardio, strength training, core work and a bonus section on yoga stretching.
I highly recommend this video!!!

I really love these new Women's Health workout series. I have the previous series and lost interest quickly with those. Not these workouts. Amy Dixon is very energetic and encouraging. I found this workout to be very fast paced and well structured. It took a couple times going through to get all the moves but you definitely feel the workout later in the day and by the next day. I found the moves to really work the trouble areas we all have and like the burn afterwards, not to mention sweat. This is a great total body workout and one you can do in segments depending on what area you want to work. I loved all the sections and the bonus segment as well. Hope to see more Amy Dixon workouts by Women's health. A real keeper.

This workout is somewhat challenging and fun. Amy isn't annoying to listen to, either.
It is broken up into three main segments, a 25 minute cardio section, 20 minutes of strength and a 10 minute ab section. There is also a bonus yoga stretch at the end.

Great cueing and measured high for calorie burn,

CALORIC BURN: First I'll touch on the caloric burn of the dvd because that's, after all, the biggest need I have in a fitness dvd. I workout daily to a large library of exercise dvds that I've collected over the years in order to keep it interesting and new with varied trainers, sets, music, and routines that challenge different muscles. I measure the caloric burn of a dvd by wearing a bodybugg which tells me not only how many calories I burn per day, but also during a workout including how many calories are burned per minute during that workout. I mention this only so you know what I say is based upon scientific measurement rather than perceived exertion. The calorie burn was very high on this dvd with one of the higher measures of caloric burn per minute from my collection.
But better yet, I didn't feel "wiped out" by doing it. It was energizing and many of the moves were unique. ROUTINES INCLUDED: The dvd contains 3 different workouts, a high energy cardio with some fun sports-based moves (dont let that scare you off...I was picked last for p.e. teams during my entire childhood and couldn't do a sport aside from skiing, watersports, and iceskating to save my life)...but it made it fun to move three steps than lunge foreward with a raquetless hand as though swiping a ball. In all honesty this was similar to a kickboxing move with the same upper and lower body cardio results...but was fun and new to learn within the routine. Also during the warm up to do a tai chi move called "moving water"...just new things I'd never done before in spite of this being my primary method of fitness...moves with the backstroke as in swimming are another example...I like that. Fu with good results. Also it has a strength training and balance session and then the next segment is strictly for core and abs. CUEING: She's a pro at cueing. She reaaaaally ensures you know just what's coming up and that you get the steps down with your feet before hand movements are added in during the aerobics. MUSIC;The music is some of the best I've heard as far as being in sync with the routine. It moves to the beat of the movement but then when the instructor starts going faster and into a more rigorous part of the routine the music is more dramatic too...I felt this was energizing and I noticed it. MUSCLES WORKED: the moves picked in just the cardio portion (aside from the strength session) were well thought out including many standing ab moves via twists etc so that you work out upper, lower, body and good core while burning mega calories in cardio...well thought out for utmost caloric burn. SET: the set is, or is made to look like, it's back stage of a theater. INSTRUCTOR TEAM: there is a back up team of all shapes and sizes which is nice. TRAINING STYLE: Amy Dixon has a good combo for a trainer...she's tough but warm rather than tough but annoying. She pushes you hard yet you LIKE her and she truly seems to enjoy what she's doing. CONCLUSION: this is one I frequently recommend. NEGATIVES: Some might not like the background shouts of "yeah!" "wow!" etc. I usually hate these in some videos I have because they seem so dang fake and rehearsed but just for me I didn't feel that way in this one...not sure why...maybe because they seemed genuine and weren't so frequent as to bug me and were done after you were pushed hard and kinda felt the same thing. Still, if you want low key know that they are there because you might not like that. ALTERNATIVES: Similar to Amy Dixon's other workouts if you like those or, if you haven't tried them and like this one you should like them, you might also like Jillian Michaels Lose Fat Boost Metabolism dvd as well if you like this one. It's another strong calorie burner (actually it burned a bit more) and really covers all muscles too but she isn't as condescending in this new dvd as she was in some others she did where she also had odd nervous laughter. She finally seems comfortable and offers great energy and motivation in that one. Weight Loss Cardio Sculpt with Violet Zaki was another recent one I found that has similar attributes, good burn and good instruction too.

I couldn't wait to get this DVD after using Amy Dixon's other two (Total Workout and Ultimate Fat Burn). She is very motivating and gives great ques for what's coming up. Awesome cardio and strength work. This kicks my booty so I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. Thank you Amy Dixon for another great DVD!

I own all the Women's Health DVDs and though I absolutely love all of them, I have to say that this is my favorite. I am very picky when it comes to instructors and I love Amy Dixon. She is a clear and encouraging instructor but without the annoying personality. I consider myself to be at an intermediate level and this DVD is just challenging enough. The strength and abs/core sections are very effective and I really feel the results afterwards. Also excellent is Ultimate Fat Burn, which always works up a good sweat.

I am very pleased with this video. The next day after doing this workout, I can definitely feel it in my muscles. I also like the instructor....she is easy to follow and isn't too "chatty."

I was pleasantly surprised by Amy Dixon's enthusiasm and direction. This is a great 30 minute cardio workout with an additional 35 minute full body weight routine. You won't bulk up as she uses light weights, and she integrates full body moves using the light weights encorporating the core a great deal.

I bought this DVD after doing Amy's UFB and TW10 DVDs for weeks on end and finally getting bored with them. This DVD seems a little harder than the other two, depending on how you do it. I will be honest and admit that I've never done this entire DVD in one sitting (not that I'm actually sitting. I wish!) It is 67 minutes long and, since I refuse to get up before 5:00, I don't have that much time. But I have been alternating, doing either the cardio and the core sections together, or strength and core together. Then on "slower" days I do just the core followed by the bonus yoga segment. I have never done yoga before, but I enjoy that bonus segment now and then. Feels really good but still makes you feel like you did something "extra". My trouble spot is definitely the kidney fat on my lower back. I saw results in my body tone while doing Amy's UFB and TW10, EXCEPT in my abs/back. So I was getting very discouraged. That is why I tried this DVD and always do the Core & More section. And I do think in the few weeks I've been doing it, I can feel some firmness finally happening back there. So if any of you are specifically looking for core work like I was, I would definitely recommend this DVD of Amy's over her other two. My one complaint is that, during the core section, Amy says to "Follow Stephanie for a modified workout." (She does that in all her DVDs, and usually you can notice that the modifier person is doing easier moves.) However, on this section, I don't see Stephanie doing ONE thing different than anyone else. So on days my body is telling me to take it easy, that is very frustrating and annoying. Otherwise, this DVD is another butt-kicker with a little different format than Amy's other two. So if you love Amy like I do but want something a little different, give this one a shot!
