Book Description

April 17, 1998

Out of a wealth of documentation, and often from the words of the people themselves, Spruill's account brings these women's lives out of the shadows-opening a usable past that was not there before.

In the words of Arthur Schlesinger, Sr., it is "an important contribution to social history to which students will constantly turn."

5.0 out of 5 stars No more important work on Colonial women, September 11, 2006
This review is from: Women's Life and Work in the Southern Colonies (Paperback)
This is a handbook for anyone studying or writing about the Colonial period. I found it absolutely indespensable in writing two novels of the period. It is also just plain fun to read if you are a devotee of history.
