Mephisto Ulla sandals are my go-to travel shoe. I've had mine for about 8 years, and although they are a bit beat up, I still love them. You can adjust the instep strap and the heel strap for days when your feet are swollen. And, this style is great for semi-wide feet. The wedge heel is sturdy, but it adds a slimming inch or two. I even wear my Ulla shoes in Paris or Seattle when it's cold by wearing them with thick black tights. From a distance, the tights make my sandals look like regular black travel shoes, but without the cramped-toe part.

Trust me, you don't want to look like a dork in white sneakers in Paris...but these sandals are very sturdy and almost as comfortable as athletic shoes. Sure, I bring other shoes on holiday, but I never go anywhere without my good old Mephisto Ullas in my suitcase...for backup. Christina Gregoire
