2.0 out of 5 stars The Shortest DS Game I've Ever Played

I enjoyed parts of Women's Murder Club, and I can see how fans of the books/TV series might really love it while it lasts. Mostly a seek-and-find with a few puzzles and some Q/A gameplay (testing your memory of the case and logical skills) thrown in the mix, the game had a lot of potential. I liked some of the more original seek-and-find prompts like "find all of the objects that could be used to strangle the victim." But the game often doles out one seek and find objective at a time, and sometimes you can find this one item immediately (in just one or two seconds), so the pacing of the gameplay is clunky and disjointed. Even when you're given a short list of items to find, you can often find all of the objects in a minute or less. In all of the game modes, no matter what you do, there's absolutely no penalty for doing anything wrong. So if you ever do forget something about the case or can't figure out what the game is asking for, you can just keep clicking (guessing) until you get it right. In my book, that's a bad thing, not a good thing. Throughout the game, you spend most of your time clicking through dialogue with no actual real interaction or gameplay, which gets tedious.

There is some bonus content, though you do not have to beat the game to unlock it. It's all available from the beginning. First, there's mahjong. It's just your standard solitaire style mahjong. If you don't already have another version, it's okay, but it's not in the same league as Mahjong Quest/Quest Trio. Second, if you have a DSi, there are these sort of mad libs-style cases that you can do. You are prompted to take photos of different things/people, and then it works those photos into a little story. The stories are quite silly, but I guess some people might enjoy this. It might be fun if you're stuck somewhere with a group of friends.

Overall, I found WMC way too easy with lots of mildly interesting (and sometimes silly) dialogue to click through but not enough actual gameplay, and it took me only 2 hours and 10 minutes to beat the game. If I'd paid $5-$8 for this one through DSiWare, I'd be okay with that. For a $30 retail game, it's a total ripoff.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Passion in this Murder Club, October 4, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Women's Murder Club Games of Passion (Video Game)
The game was too simplistic and not challenging for the money. It took only 4 hours which was very disappointing. The story line wasn't interesting particularly the hidden object games which were very simplistic. There were only 6 items to find at a time. The characters were not interesting or compelling particularly their dialogue. It is not at the level of Broken Sword, or the Ace Attorney series.

1.0 out of 5 stars No mystery here...save your money!, September 29, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Women's Murder Club Games of Passion (Video Game)
I really was expecting a challenging game but am very disappointed. As you proceed through the different crime scenes you are asked to remove a list of items (clutter) by tapping them with your stylus. They should say, pound your stylus on the item because that is what you have to do to have the game recognize that you have found the item. It is very unresponsive, so it is very frustrating.

Additionally, the storyline is mediocre at best. The game saves when it wants to, not when you are ready to stop. It does save quite frequently, but when to save should be the player's choice.

The graphics are okay, but everything else isn't. I am returning this game for a refund.

I was very very disappointed as I have Womans Murder Club(Twice in a Blue Moon,A Darker Shade of Grey, and Death in Scarlett) for the PC.I have yet to finish these yet ,but like the other reviewers of this game I finished it in less then 2 hours.
Hannah Montannah took me way longer to finish than that and so did Cheetah Girls.I was much more impressed w/the new Professor Layton. In Love WMC but not for the DS I pre-ordered it and waited forever to even get it and then [...] for 2 hours of fun .Next time I'll buy a bottle of Calgon Bath Beads, and a good book.Sorry Nintendo this game is a waste of time and money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!!!, August 12, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Women's Murder Club Games of Passion (Video Game)
This game is short and boring. You really don't solve anything, you just play a seek and find puzzles the whole time and the story moves along. Then there is a useless majong bonus game when you win. Not even related to the story line. I sold this game as soon as i finished it. What a disappointment!!!

I thought this game was overpriced for what it is. I played it for a few hours and beat it. Though I do like all the Women's Murder Club books this game wasn't challenging enough.

I love reading the Women's Murder Club series of books. This game was okay. But I was hoping for more mysteries on this game. The game is boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much remembering required., December 10, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Women's Murder Club Games of Passion (Video Game)
I like to play quick games on my DS and not sit there with it for hours at a time. This game is not hard but it does expect you to remember what has happened before which makes it difficult to just pick up and play for a few minutes every now and again. It will let you just guess over and over but that gets tedious and boring. The hidden objects aspect is not very difficult. The game doesn't flow as well as have others in this genre.

I agree with the other reviewers. The game is too short and is not challenging enough for those who tend to buy such games. It's certainly in no way related to the relative complexity and suspense of the Patterson novels and I've read all of them. I would call it a game to get on the cheap as a short time waster. Probably good for a flight rather than reading a book, though I would take one of his novels.
