To raise the price of these floppy little boots, a person could put a nice arch-support in each boot. But why bother? Just buy something else. Something with insulation to keep your feet warm.
These arrived this week and I tried them on. They are" sherpa" cloth inside and fake suede outside. They do look pretty cute, but if your outside temperature is 18 degrees Fahrenheit, these boots won't help you. The soles conduct heat away from your feet and out into the ice and snow.
$39.99 is too much for these. I"m sorry I can't say much positive about these since somebody put effort into making them. But then, so do many other sellers and manufacturers.
If you want house slippers with an outdoor look, you might add insulation such as insoles, and just use them indoors, but these aren't for outdoor use, even with nice thermal socks, in my opinion.
I'm sorry that I bought these and will need to be more careful in future
, If there is a serviceable pair of winter boots for women, would you share the info with me in a comment? I'm still looking. Thanks.
Update 1/8/2012: on Amazon.com, I found the following to be helpful:
Search: " Skechers women's waterproof winter boots."
This search turned up some very interesting winter boots, great support, reasonable price. Some in price range $39.99 but better quality indeed. Turns out there's a Skechers store on Amazon. Lots of interesting boot reviews.
They are made with faux suede, so they are not as warm as boots made out of a material like sheepskin. This was a positive for me because while those boots keep me warm they also make me very hot if the weather is warm at all. I wanted a shoe that breathed better and that is what I got. Additionally, they have a softer, rubby sole. Which again, will not keep you as warm but will bend with you feet. To sum it up these are not snow boot as some people seem to think - they aren't meant to tromp through the snow or suffocate you feet in sweltering heat - they are cute boots that have water resistant soles (so ok for rain or light snow) that are suitable for 30 degree and up. Faux suede soak up water so if they are covered in snow they will get wet! 2 of the 3 years I owned these boot I lived in Milwaukee and they suited my needs so they work for winter as long as you use common sense.
Only thing I' ll warn you about is that the sizes do run big!
When I first gone them I would have given them 4 stars but given they have lasted way longer than I had hoped I'm giving the 5 stars.
