Rugged Style with a Waterproof Nubuck Upper

The Targhee II offers a sleek-and-sporty style and a lace-up front for a custom fit. This low-profile shoe stands up to any trail conditions and looks good doing it, thanks to a durable, waterproof nubuck upper with stitching accents and pops of bright color on the laces and around the heel.

Breathable Moisture Protection with Keen.Dry

To keep you treading comfortably on all kinds of terrain, the Targhee II features a Keen.Dry insert. This waterproof membrane offers an additional barrier against moisture yet is breathable enough for all-day comfort.

S3 Heel Support

S3 stands for Shock, Suspension, and Stability and refers to Keen's unique heel-support structure. S3 is engineered to support the foot on impact, which dissipates shock, helping to prevent injury to the ankle.

Keen Metatomical Footbed and EVA Midsole for Support

For comfort and support that won't quit, the Targhee II features a removable, dual-density EVA footbed that provides arch support by hugging the natural contours of your foot. The compression-molded EVA midsole extends the benefits of the footbed and adds an extra spring to your step.

ESS Shank Reduces Foot Fatigue

To keep you going longer, the Targhee II has a torsional-stability ESS shank in the midsole. This shank helps to stabilize your foot as you move, minimizing fatigue, so you can enjoy every moment as you push on to the next crest.

Multi-Directional Lugs for Greater Traction

To give you a steady grip on all kinds of terrain, the Targhee has 4-millimeter, multi-directional lugs on its non-marking rubber outsole. These lugs are spaced wide apart to "bite" into the terrain, giving you more dependable traction on slippery and uneven surfaces.

Patented Toe Protection

Because rocky objects and debris can trip you up on the trail, the Targhee II includes Keen.Protect, patented toe protection that wraps up and over the outsole for thorough coverage of the entire toe bed.

Keen: A Story of Hybrid Innovation

Keen began in 2003 with an inspired sandal design that combined comfort and toe protection. This radical design departure for sandals spawned the overriding Keen philosophy of hybrid innovation--striving to create new possibilities and to discover and implement original ideas.

Keen products put an emphasis on the joys of play. At the same time, Keen believes in the value of working hard to give back to the community. To that end, the company has partnered with non-profit organizations around the world to help get youth into the outdoors, protect land for its environmental and recreational value, and to give bikes to kids in need.

What's in the Box

Keen Women's Targhee II Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot.

For wet hikes and damp camping trips, the Keen Women's Targhee II Mid Hiking Boot is a wonderful shoe to call upon. The waterproof and breathable eVENT liner allows moisture vapor to move outward before condensing and turning to perspiration. Meanwhile it blocks raindrops and stream water from soaking inward. Wet environments require solid traction, and the Keen Targhee II Mid Hiking Boot delivers with aggressive 4mm lugs. The ESS shank receives credit for a big assist here as it provides torsional rigidity for traveling over rock-strewn paths and traversing loose slopes..

The only way I can fully describe my admiration for this shoe is with a story. My dad and I go on an annual backpacking trip near his house in Montana. We're pretty serious backpackers - sometimes doing over 30 miles in two days. This past summer I got all my stuff together and flew to Montana to go on the trip but realized the day before that I had forgot my trusty boots. I had no choice but to buy new shoes and backpack with them without breaking them in (breaking cardinal rule # 1 for backpackers). We went with the intent to "take it easy" and planned out a route of 20 miles in three days, but after the first 8 miles my feet were so happy that we extended the trip. It was some of the best packing I've ever done. And not only did I not get any blisters, but I didn't get to the campsite with a fanatical desire to take off my shoes. Since then, I purchased an extra pair of these Keen boots because they make my feet just that happy. :)

Some very cool features are: easy to waterproof - mine never leak, the little eyelits at the top keep your laces snug while you tie, feel more like sneakers than boots, adequate ankle support, VERY light (VERY important after twenty miles of hiking!) and good tread. Cheers!

I wore them for the first time during a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and they were GREAT! I took an extra pair of sneaks with me because I feared I'd have problems because I hadn't worn the boots before. I also had blister bandages. I didn't need any of them!! These boots survived very wet snow, many muddy, flooded paths and Bison Poop! They were so comfy I thought I had replaced the arches with something 'better". I felt very confident on rocky paths. I had to buy 1/2 size bigger then my normal size.

Many of the more expensive boots hurt my feet and/or ankle so I am super pleased with these boots. (though not so pleased about my encounter with the Bison ;) )

I have medium height arches, slightly wide foot (not overly wide for a woman, but neither are my feet narrow. I would say they are at the top end of a B width), and I have long toes. I buy regular shoes between a 9 - 9 1/2 and where the narrow sandals and open toed heels at about a size 10. First I would say these hiking boots are made a little bigger, but that's okay due to the wool socks. I found my right size in these KEEN Targhee II Mid at a 10 1/2. I got them through REI at the same price here, minus first time buyer discount.

Traction is awesome with these shoes. The laces stay taunt and never come loose. No problems with the top plastic eyelet (sorry, I am tired, I can't remember the exact name of it right now) where the last lacing goes through. I heard some reviews where women got up tight about this. It is super rugged and should not pop off unless it is forced, I'd imagine. I can hike no problem on moderate trails for miles and miles w/o any discomfort in my feet or ankles. I did though complete a 12 miles hike that had a few very steep inclines for ascent and descent. By the end, I was feeling that the joints where my big and second toe connects to the rest of the foot was very tired and stretched out. It gave my right ankle quite a licking too. I would highly suggest an additional pair of cushioning insoles for these, at least on hikes over 7 miles when the trail is considered very difficult to strenuous. Also, I am about 50 lbs overweight at the time of this review, so my extra weight could have contributed to my foot and ankle fatigue. Just saying'.

I read many, many reviews on women's hiking shoes, and this one kept popping up in the top 5.

I don't think i could ever settle for another shoe. It's the most comfortable shoe I've worn. It has great tred on the bottom for a great grip. It's waterproof so I can tromp around in shallow creeks. Plus, Keen's leathers are all machine washable! It makes for great clean up. Take the footbed out, throw it in the washing machine... just don't throw them in the dryer (can't imagine the heat would be good for the sole.) Great shoe!

Perhaps I got a flawed pair of these, but I am having a serious problem that no one else here mentions. I have been a Keen customer for many years now, and I have loved every shoe and boot I have purchased. These boots are characteristically comfortable and attractive, but a good hiker they are not, unless conditions are perfectly dry. I found right away that if I stepped on even a slightly wet sidewalk, the ground started to slide beneath my feet. Forget about a wet rock or wet steep spot. They are still relatively new, so I thought that maybe the soles needed to be broken in a bit to wear off the smooth bottom. But today I sit here with an ice pack on my knee having just slipped on a rough small patch of ice that any other boots I own would have handled with ease. I live on the side of a mountain, so am no rookie at this. I consider these boots to be dangerous, and am questioning whether or not I should ever go for another pair of Keens, even shoes, if the soles are now going to be like this. I hope it is fluke, and not the result of a change in materials. If others have experienced this I would appreciate hearing. "Four wheel drive for your feet"? . . . not so for me.
