4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, June 15, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Womens Volleyball Championship (Video Game)
If you like in court (6 vs 6) volleyball you will definitively enjoy this game. There is no doubt that there are lots of room for improvement but the truth is that there aren't many other volleyball video games in the market (if there is another) and this game brings most of the sport into the modern consoles. I haven't play any tournaments or championships yet so I can't judge anything about that mode and my review will be focus on game play. You can create new players but I haven't try that either. At first you will struggle a bit getting used to the controls but after a short while you will get over them and use the decent variation of attacking combinations. Offensively, the game does a good job of resembling the sport but in the defensive side it falls a little short. Unfortunately, there aren't any deepening tutorials or manuals explaining the different combination so you will have to figure out by trying all of them. There are different service styles you can use.

There are only a few defensive alternatives for the blockers but none for the placing of back court players. Players do dive for the ball but they lack alternatives to defend any play after the ball is touched by blockers. The game camera play some tricks from time to time by not shifting quick enough from the service camera to the selected camera but this is not an every play pattern. I recommend using the second camera angle which is at intermediate distance and allows good offensive playing and attacking angles. The sound is very disappointing, the commentary lines are few, dull, boring and repetitive but this isn't a music game. Net physics are lost here, the net acts like a still wood fence. There are many options in terms of # of sets, points and even the old sideout rules. Graphics are ok considering this is a PS2 game but this title is not for the graphics. In the end, if you are a volleyball fan you will find enough elements here to keep you interested, if you don't like volleyball or you are to obsessed with graphics the chances are you will hate this game. Unfortunately, the reviews around the net are very low (most reviewers seem to be obsessed with graphs and guns of the nauseating repetitive first person shooters) and it seems like no newer version will be coming. A sequel would have been great given that the title has most of the sport elements covered.

It was a game I expected more of it. Hte graphics are cool but the game itself did not pass my approval. It was hard to control the players, and It was always doing the same thing . You Bump and Pass it, and then you try to control who kill it and sometimes it goes so quick that you press one player it goes to another one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible!, June 16, 2010

This is the worst game I have ever played. You get two players that move in unison, so you can't set them up individually. Also, the controls are very difficult...you may get lucky if you continuously press the control, but then you are so busy pressing the controls, that you can't move your players. Also, picture quality is terrible. We had to stand right up to the TV to see the players.
