5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for making your own 1930s clothing
If you are an experienced sewer who wants to make your own clothing from the 1930s, this is the book for you. It doesn't have hats or hose, but it has everything else from foundation garments to outerwear. A big plus for this book is that for a few of the garments, they give the pattern drawing and a photo of the complete garmment on a real person. The book is also a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Over priced
For what it is this book is over priced. I didn't find the patterns that unusual, or the garments interesting. Using the patterns is restricted.

This review is from: Women's Wear of the 1930's: With Complete Patterns (Hardcover)
The book is also a good resource for dating the patterns in your pattern collection, as it gives the general outline of styles from each year of the 1930s. To use the patterns, you must be an experience sewer, as the patterns must be enlarged and the directions are sketchy.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1930s disappointment, October 25, 2011

This review is from: Women's Wear of the 1930's: With Complete Patterns (Hardcover)
I admit I am impressed by the number of patterns - but the design quality of the patterns are not all that. The 1930s brings to mind amazing bias cuts, daring art deco geometry, asymmetrical lines, lavish lines - NONE of which are present in this volume. The patterns are not for beginners, though the simplistic lines - I could of guessed and done without it because I drape. The three stars are for those uninitiated and unacquainted with vintage fashions - for whom may need this tome. My advice, buy vintage fashions and deduce it from there - or better yet, and this is what I really recommend - buy Betty Kirke's classic tome on Vionnet. That classic timeless and best book ever on Vionnet gives one more patterns and way better designs for about roughly the same price!
