I suspect that the tour of the thirty years war is reasonably accurate. I know little of that war. The writing is nice, what bothers me is that the story is so ludicrous. A general riding along stops to talk to a boy playing soldier, recruits him to his staff, the boy then proceeds to win the war by himself with only the aide of his servant.

This is one of G.A. Hemty's books, and such being the case, a remarkably classic tale. By the time one completes it, one is bound to be well nigh unable to set it down.
