An Inspiring book,
By
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
This book is a series of interviews with 9 different people talking about their experiences in Eucharistic adoration. This is a powerful & well written book once I started reading it I didn't want to put the book down. These people showed how adoration has given them a stronger faith and a deeper love of Jesus. These are people from all walks of life and with different experiences, some are converts, some have suffered greatly, but they all tell about the peace they have found in christ through the eucharist. This book has inspired me to spend time every day in adoration. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a deeper prayer life.

A Wonder of a Book,
By joseph pronechen (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
I found this book to be a real eye-opener about Eucharistic Adoration. Dave Pearson makes you feel like you're sitting right there beside him and being amazed at the powerful stories of each of these people at the moment they're telling them. Each of the men and women have such fascinating, such amazing, and yet such straightforward stories about how their lives were transformed by spending time with Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in church. These are real people and Pearson goes right to the heart of what they're saying to us readers. The good examples include the way people converted from no real beliefs, or from other faiths, by the power of the Eucharistic Jesus. How their lives were strengthened, how they were able to bear up under struggles that would flatten many people. And how happy and peaceful their lives are because of it. Pearson puts this book together in a very readable style. The way he captures each person's story and how his or her life has been immeasurably enriched because of Eucharistic adoration becomes a real inspiration for the reader. There are so many good examples of faith and real unshakable hope in these memorable pages that some of them can't help but touch and encourage any reader. By their personal examples, these people really help convince a reader that Jesus is really and fully alive and present in the Eucharist. Ultimately, I think this book will even inspire readers to try Eucharistic adoration and see how their own lives can be and will be transformed. I highly recommend it. It would also make a great gift to someone who may be struggling in his or her life and needs to know of the major help they can receive through Eucharistic adoration.

You'll Adore This Book,

This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
In "No Wonder They Call It The Real Presence," David Pearson conducts a multi-voiced chorus of praise to our Lord present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. The people David interviews -laymen and women all - are themselves a mirror of the Eucharist: quietly hiding beneath the common things of this world and yet in their substance full of power and majesty and grace. In a time when tragedy is so often twisted into farce, these folks tell of lives transformed through the renewing of their minds and hearts in adoration of Jesus, present in the Blessed Sacrament. This book will remind you that while laymen and priests and bishops may sometimes fail us, the Church never does, because only through her do we receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.

Real People Meet the Real Jesus in the Eucharist,
By Carl E. Olson "Author of 'Will Catholics Be '... (Oregon, United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of the Christian Faith. The Eucharist is the actual Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, of the Incarnate Word, Jesus Christ. Yet many Catholics doubt this belief, are confused by it, or reject is altogether. This book provides both answers and challenges for Catholics looking for a better understanding of the reality and Real Presence of the Eucharist.Dave Pearson initially set out to write a theological and apologetic work aimed at clarifying Catholic teaching about the Real Presence. Wanting to include some personal anecdotes, he interviewed several people active in regular Eucharistic adoration. Realizing the power of their experiences, he compiled these nine interviews. Frank, open, and often vulnerable, these ordinary folks gives witness to the reality of the Real Presence and its tranforming power. As nineteen year old Dylan states so well, the Eucharist is "a radical invitation to love and be loved." This is a book that will challenge and encourage those seeking a deeper, more intimate relationship with their Savior. [Carl Olson is editor of Envoy magazine.]

David Pearson has done an outstanding job in presenting a well written, down to earth book that is easy to read, but hard to put down.No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence is a fascinating look and incredible story of 9 individuals who have embrassed their relationship with God through the Eucharist. They have invited us in, they have spoken honestly and openly about their lives, their tragedies, their short-comings. Each one of them has a special story to tell. EVERY ONE of them has a very special message to convey...The REAL PRESENCE is there for all of us. I thank them for sharing their stories. I thank the author, David Pearson, for bringing their accounts to us.

"Renewal" in the Best Sense,
By
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
I was gratified to see this wonderful set of accounts of the practice of Adoration. The publisher says that this is "a movement sweeping the Catholic Church," but Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar is a very old practice. What is new is that so many parishes are advocating the practice, some even 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to great spiritual effect among their people. (Dioceses which have Perpetual Adoration are noticing a great increase in quality vocations to the priesthood, some the Church desperately needs in these times.) This will inspire Catholics and inform Catholics and non-Catholics alike as to this powerful form of meditative prayer.

A truly moving and inspiring book. David Pearson's use of everyday "real world" people to show the power and life changing effects of Eucharistic Adoration brought great life and meaning to this novel.Though I possess a strong faith in God, this book made me reflect on my own relationship with Christ. It gave me a beautiful vehicle (Eucharistic Adoration), through which I could not only experience Jesus Christ's holy presence, but also build a stronger connection with God. Whether you consider yourself deeply religious, "some what" religious, or "lost" with respect to religion, I would highly recommend this book. Reading the testimonials of the men and women interviewed and witnessing the life changing power of Eucharistic Adoration will help you find a deeper calling. I would love to read more by David Pearson. There is a real sincerity and openness in this author's writing. There is a real sense that he is writing from his heart, and as a reader, that means a lot.

Real People - Real Presence,
By Barry Michaels (Blairsville, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
"A lot of very down-to-earth, nonfanatical people are having very transcendent, mystical, religious experiences in Eucharistic adoration chapels," writes David Pearson in this book. That is the fundamental message of this book. The nine people Pearson interviews come from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences. He allows them to tell their own stories, simply coaxing them along now and then with a few probing questions. These folks offer their stories without trying to come off as pious saints or theologians. They simply and generously offer us a window into their own lives, especially their spiritual lives, parts of people we rarely see unless they are our spouse or close friend. Sure, we hear about their moments of rapt joy at the realization of Jesus present in the Eucharist. But we also hear about the dry and boring times of prayer, and about the difficulties and tragedies of life and the place Jesus in the Eucharist has there. I'll keep this one, and probably pick it up again in my own moments of spiritual dryness, boredom, and questioning. To me, it's a written record of God's grace in the lives of everyday folks.

Keepin' It Real,

This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
Frankly I have been burned out on spiritual reading for a while, so I wasn't sure how enthused I would be about this title when a friend gave it to me. Turns out this was exactly what I needed to restart my spiritual life. The book is a series of interviews with ordinary people who have fallen in love with God through Eucharistic adoration. This was really a "back to basics" book for me, as the interview subjects explained in simple language their personal relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist. It reminded me of why I became Catholic in the first place. True on the spiritual level, the stories are also gripping on the personal level. Pearson's introduction is also pithy and entertaining.

A Heart Warmer -- And Much More,
By David Gordon (Cambridge, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Wonder They Call It the Real Presence: Lives Changed by Christ In Eucharistic Adoration (Paperback)
In 2002 especially, this book is a wonderful gift to us all -- a clear-headed and soul-soothing reminder of why noisy headlines of scandal and schism cannot dampen the sound of Jesus' call: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." As David Pearson's book demonstrates so powerfully, that invitation is extended to us every single day--wherever a Mass is said, wherever a tabernacle lamp is lit, wherever the Eucharist is raised for adoration. This book is filled with inspirational, even miraculous, accounts of how Eucharistic adoration changes lives. But it is much more than a heart-warmer: it is a surprisingly practical book, a very sensible guide to finding the rest we claim to crave. (He's closer than we realize.) All this for the price of a movie ticket or a yoga class. Bring on volume two! |
